The week opening at Ern's Sport Center reports mixed fishing luck with little activity but decent catches. Top positions include Lonnie first with 0.10, Erwin second, Norris Cow third with 5.80n, and Law fourth with 1402 pounds.
Lake and Caribou Scouts Camp 4, originally at Bear Lake County site, will relocate to Montpelier Rod and Site with check in 5:00 PM Friday. The program includes a campfire ceremony and Order of the Arrow honors at 8:30 PM directed by Keith Le and Mel Munford. Contact district chairs Shuler or Garrett Gust for questions.
The Idaho Fish and Game Department invites applications for moose mountain goat elk and deer hunts and turkey permits. Drawings will occur in Boise with deadlines in July and August and a second drawing for unfilled hunts in August. Local vendors distribute materials and winners will be posted after closing hours. In a separate note Springs golf results highlighted by Nelson Matthews and Ruth Strickland.
Monsanto announces Frank P. Hendrickson transfers to St. Louis as Manager of Distribution for the Inorganic Chemicals Division and Russell H. Crouse is promoted to Plant Manager effective June 6. Hendrickson's career at Monsanto began in 1950 and includes leadership roles in Idaho civic groups. Crouse, with Monsanto since 1952, rises from mining engineer to Assistant Plant Manager before this promotion. he was born in Heber City and holds a mining degree from the University of Utah.
A Beginning Oil Painting course at Soda Springs High School opens Friday at 7 30 led by Mr Marfin Bingham of Blackfoot. The college credit class aims for 18 students with room for a few more. Contact Mrs J M Link or visit the high school for details. Supplies from Mr Bingham.
Seaman R Steven J ecruit Ozburn USN 802, son of Mr and Mrs Leslie J Orburn of Soda Springs Idaho, starts nine weeks of basic training at Naval Training Center San Diego. Recruits receive instruction in customs courtesies organisation ordnance gunnery seamanship damage control first aid swimming survival shipboard drills and sentry duty. A program of physical training and inspections keeps recruits alert during training. Classification tests will determine schooling assignment or station after graduation.
Grace Free Library launches summer reading with the Circus of Books theme. Starting Friday, story hours run daily at 3 with new books for all ages to enjoy.
A five member committee appointed by the Board of Trustees of School District No. 148 met on May 28 to organize and formulate plans for studying consolidation. Members include Barbara Panter chairwoman Edsel Prescott secretary LaVar Taylor Max Rigby and Rig Young. A discussion and assignments were given, with another meeting planned in the second week of June.
An Oregon Trail marker will be unveiled and dedicated on Sunday June 10 at 3 00 p m on the grounds of the old Chesterfield meeting house The D U P Memorial Building Kate B Carter of Salt Lake City will attend Booklets about the old Oregon Trail and local pioneers will be available Interested persons are invited to attend.
Rollins, Gunnell, and Brown, Provo well drillers, secured the contract from the Soil Conservation Service in Boise, Idaho, for exploratory drilling to test rock and soil at dam sites in the Croft watershed. The May 31 award follows a bid process with four bidders, and test drilling should begin around June 12 to aid flood control design.
The Idaho Lions districts 39W and 39E met at Sun Valley over June 2 to 4. Soda Springs guests included Art and Mrs Kelly Orville and Mrs Burt Norm and Mrs Bjorkman Mrs Bitton Mrs Lutz Jake Tennent and Doug Johnson. Eddie Reed Bancroft was elected zone chairman. Eugene Briggs delivered the keynote. Orville Burt presides Soda Springs Lions.
Among more than 4800 candidates for graduation are those pursuing bachelor degrees. The Bancroft residents include James Morris Creer Allen Holbrook Sorenson Gordon C Hogan Layne A Rindlisbaker Michael Herbert Whitworth and others. Grace residents Lynne Christensen Kathleen Varley Franklin Richard Adams Orval Charles Beus Lind and Daryl Fred Nelson are also named.
A local sentence notes a University of Arizona graduate from Tucson who completed studies last Wednesday. Mrs. Evan Kackley of Wayne is identified as a related person in the fragmentary notice.
Caribou County Extension Agent Cecil Alldettir will take two local boys to the Alpine Conservation Camp starting Monday. Tom Seamons of Soda Springs attends a school sponsored by the Caribou Soil and Water Conservation District, and Kurtiss Smith of Bancroft attends on a Portneat Soil and Water Conservation District scholarship. They will stay one week and return Friday after classes end.
eRob Stanley son of Mr and Mrs Bill Stanley of Soda Springs left Monday to report for training in the United States Navy. He was taken to Pocatello by his family for processing after enlistment.
El Paso Products Co. reports phase one in a multimillion dollar program to curb emissions at its Conda Idaho phosphoric acid plant. Senior VP Cecil McNutt says the first dust remover is operating with immediate effects and plans call for three more scrubbers and additional pollution controls. The company has worked with Idaho state officials and the University of Idaho since 1966 and anticipates full pollution control by year end, with further upgrades planned this summer totaling about $800,000.
The Caribou County Wool Pool sold about 6000 fleeces to R C Elliott and Company of Salt Lake City for 50.13 per unit. It marks the highest price in the state so far. Wool will be shipped from here on June 21.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Hahn of Pocatello spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Glan Hutt in Ogden Springs.
Aviation Storekeeper Second Class Stuart A. Call USN, son of Mrs. Edith G. Call of Soda Springs Idaho, was promoted at Cubi Point Philippines while serving at the Fleet Intelligence Center Naval Air Station. The promotion followed his time in rate and service and a service wide exam.Ceremonies recognized his advancement at the center.
Idaho State Forestry reminds the public to obtain a burning permit before burning between May 10 and October 20 each year. Section 38-116 requires anyone burning brush debris fields or starting fires during these dates to carry a valid permit issued by a warden of the Cottonwood Forest Protective District. The notice lists authorized individuals and includes a required inspection and four hour waiting period before any permitting can be completed.
