Grace High School opened with a 54 38 win over West Side in the Fifth District A-3 tournament at Soda Springs gym. Bob Hardy and Kay Hill led Grace with 13 points each as West Side trailed early and could not close the gap. North Gem edged Grace 45 41 to force a rematch, while the loser of tonight's Grace West Side game is eliminated. The district winner advances to the Burley A-3 tournament, with North Gem awaiting in Friday action. Mike Merrill named Kerr McGee chief metallurgist in Soda Springs. he is a Univ of Idaho chemical engineering graduate.

Cancer Training School to Be Held Monday
The American Cancer Society Idaho Division will sponsor a county training meeting for Bonbon and Bear Lake counties on Monday afternoon March 4 at the Idaho Cafe in Soda Springs. Beginning at 2 pm guest speakers Dr Emmett E Herron Grace and Dr Paul H Davies Montpellier will speak along with Boise office representatives James E Worsley Jr executive director of the Idaho Division and field representatives Ron Grisham and Beulah Martin. The Idaho Division marks its 30th anniversary since 1938 by the Women Field Army for the Control of Cancer. Volunteer workers are needed in Caribou County and those wishing to participate in the April Crusade are urged to attend this educational meeting.

New Pamphlet On Soil Erosion Is Now Available
A new Soil Conservation Service publication titled Sediment It’s Filling Harbors Lakes and Roadside Ditches highlights how eroded soil harms water systems and dockside areas. Heart Fund Drive in Caribou County Ends with $61870
Caribou County residents contributed 61870 to the Heart Fund drive as volunteers canvassed door to door. About 100 workers gathered gifts during the month long campaign. Final totals will be released after remaining envelopes are opened. The drive supports Idaho Heart Association programs addressing heart disease.

Local Girls Win At Bear Lake Giant Slalom
Lynne Tigert and Alice Ann Tigert led Bear Lake Invitational Giant Slalom at Beaver Mountain Ski Area on Feb 24. Lynne clocked 120.4 seconds total for two runs with Alice at 194.4 seconds. Randy Ridge and Bob Nelson finished fifth and sixth among 16 boys. Seven experienced skiers in the field. Soda Springs youths faltered. Val Dean Moore was disqualified but had the third fastest time. Advisor Arnell Walker led 22 students on the trip. ten racers competed in two races and All had a good day.
