Consolidation Issue Remains Undecided In Soda Springs North Gem

The consolidation between Soda Springs and North Gem remains undecided at press time. The Soda Springs Board twice voted to place the issue before voters, first for a three way consolidation and then for a two way plan with North Gem. The North Gem Board has not yet decided if the issue will be put to an official vote, delaying any further action.

Beet Growers Meetings in Bancroft and Grace Areas

Beet growers are invited to meetings on Wednesday March 19 at 1:30 PM in Bancroft High School auditorium and 7:30 PM at Grace High School. Sessions cover contracts seedbed prep planning herbicide use cultivation irrigation and harvesting with refreshments provided. All interested persons urged to attend regardless of intent to grow beets.

Bancroft Residents Back Sewer Project at Special Meeting

At a Feb 28 meeting in North Gem High School Bancroft residents south of the tracks approved a regional sewer system by 74 to 11. Construction starts this spring with completion expected in August at an estimated $133,000. Members will pay a $25 fee to fund initial costs. later, the association will seek additional funds from the Farmers Home Administration.

Soda Springs Library Expands Paperback Exchange Program

The Soda Springs Public Library continues its paperback book exchange offering a large selection. The public may swap any paperback they own for an equal number from the library’s collection at no charge.

Cowboys Capture District A-3 Title at Soda Springs

North Gem Cowboys rallied from a six point deficit in the second period to beat West Side Pirates 58-50 and win the Fifth District A-3 title. Sid Crossley scored 24, R Faulkner 18, with four West Side players in double figures. Crossley leads the tournament with 34 points. North Gem advances to state in Burley, meeting New Plymouth at 1:30 pm Thursday.

Red Cross Fund Drive Opens in Caribou County

Two Bancroft Businesses Robbed Late Wednesday

Two Bancroft business houses were broken into and robbed with entry via pried doors. At Union Pacific Depot the guard found papers scattered, $5 in change, and a three foot crowbar taken. Wilson's Farm Service suffered a forced entry, cash losses, a coke machine pried open, and a $50 Polaroid camera stolen. The sheriff investigates.

Cards eliminated from tournament by Malad in district action

Soda Springs loses 57 50 to Malad in the Fifth District A 2 tournament. Lynn Nelson scores 20 to lead Soda while Ron Peterson sparks a late rally. Preston earns the title with a 67 65 win over Malad and both teams advance to the State A 2 tournament in Pocatello.

TV Association to Elect Officers Friday

The Caribou County TV Association will meet Friday evening March 8 in the Prob at Court room of the County Courthouse in Soda Springs. Officers for the coming year will be elected and members are invited to attend. They announced Idaho Channel 3 tests now on Channel 9 locally, and dues rise to 10 per year payable to Carroll Dean Harris or Seth Bailey Bancroft.
