Grace Kindergarten to Begin March 4 at Grace Schools

Grace School District starts a kindergarten program March 4 for five year olds. Sessions run from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. and 12:20 to 3:20 p.m. at the junior high, with buses for morning and afternoon attendees. Trustees zones 1-3 and 4-5 split attendance, with transportation provided as needed.

Cards Emerge From Class A Mat Tourney With Two Champs

The Soda Springs Cardinals advanced three wrestlers to the State Class A finals at Twin Falls. David Norris won the 115 lb title, Ken Munro captured the 130 lb crown, and Tom Bailey finished third at 106 lb. Reed Johnson was eliminated with a 5-2 loss after a first-round win. The team scored 34 points to place sixth behind Pocatello Snake River Twin Falls Idaho Falls and Borah.

Cowboys Mabey Wins State B Title in Twin Falls

North Gem wrestler Dan Mabey captured the Class B 157 pound championship at the State Wrestling Tournament in Twin Falls on Saturday night by defeating Darwin Buchanan of Cambridge in overtime. Also placing were Grant Knowles third at 115 pounds and Craig Mansfield fourth at 130 pounds. Teton of Driggs won the Class B team title with 97 points.

New Wheat Farm Application Deadline Nears

Farmers seeking a new farm wheat allotment for 1968 must contact the county ASC office this month per J Emerson Mabey chairing the County ASC Committee. Applications may be filed until February 29. eligible producers must lack any wheat allotment and meet land, equipment, and income criteria. Formal applications require completing the ASC office form before the deadline.

Heart Fund Drive slated for Idaho Sunday

Gov Don Samuelson proclaims Sunday February 25 as the climax of Heart Month activities in Idaho. Dick Smith, state campaign chair, says volunteers will solicit funds statewide to aid the Idaho Heart Association. Funds support penicillin distribution, heart disease research, educational programs, and films in Idaho. 25 percent go to the American Heart Association. The campaign goal is set at 84 100 dollars and is expected to be surpassed.

Cattle Seminar Set Across Three Idaho Counties

The University of Idaho Extension Service will hold beef cattle health seminars in Bear Lake Caribou and Franklin counties on February 27 28 and 29. Bancroft Man Receives Second Air Medal in Guam

U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Terrance R. Kelly of Bancroft earned his second Air Medal at Andersen AFB Guam for outstanding airmanship as a flight engineer on weather reconnaissance missions in the Pacific. He serves in the Air Weather Service and is a North Gem High School alumnus. his wife Patricia hails from Nashville, Tennessee.

Public Hearings Draw Interest in Two-Way School Consolidation

A February 12 public hearing on consolidating Bancroft and Soda Springs schools drew 104 attendees. Local officials outlined the consolidation study since 1967, district bonding plans, capacity data, projected enrollments, and possible grade transportation to Bancroft or North Gem.

Little League Basketball Playoffs Saturday

The Lions Lite League playoffs are set for Saturday at Soda Springs High School gym. At 9:00 am Red Devils play Cowboys for seventh place. At 9:30 Bears meet Panthers for fifth. At 10:00 Tigers face Cardinals for third. Championship at 10:30 between Eagles and Indians.

Fifth District Class A-3 Basketball Opens Here Friday

The Fifth District Class A-3 tournament starts Friday at 8:00 p.m. in Soda Springs High School gym with West Side and Grace in the opening game while North Gem has a first-round bye. North Gem faces the Friday winner Saturday night, with late February to March 1 set for possible extra games and a final March 1, 2 if needed. A junior high tournament precedes the high school games featuring Soda Springs Grace Lava Hot Springs and North Gem with round-by-round play.

Frank Jouglard Honored for Long Sheep Career in Twin Falls

Rupert rancher Frank Jouglard, 77, was inducted Feb. 19 into the Southern Idaho Livestock Industry Hall of Fame in Twin Falls. He began in France, moved to the United States in 1914, served in WWI, and grew his Rupert area flock to about 8 000 sheep after earlier rising to 18 000. His lambing operations are noted for quality.

Rupert area rancher recounted as longtime sheep farmer

The obituary notes Mr. Jouglard has lived in Rupert since 1926 with extensive grazing lands in Flat Top Butte. He operates a 300 foot well for livestock, grazes sheep on Nat Field Forest near Soda Springs in summer, and returns them to Flat Top Butte for lambing. He was Idaho Wool Growers member and Rupert Elks member. He married Matilda Garraud in 1938, she died in 1946, then married Cecilia Aldana in 1956. He had no children but aided three step children and two nephews through college.

Local USDA Calls For Public Talks

Caribou County civic groups city and county organizations and interested individuals will meet with a USDA Technical Action Panel this month to discuss ideas plans to motivate local improvement and utilize available resources. The meeting is set for Feb 29 at 7 30 pm in the Caribou County Court House in Soda Springs.

Bancroft Patrons Reject Two Way Consolidation Plan

North Gem School District patrons at Bancroft voted 43 to 105 against a proposed consolidation with Soda Springs. Supt. J H Waite outlined district details including enrollment, finances, names and bonds, and a potential Caribou Joint School District 145. The majority favored county wide consolidation with mixed views on Grace. The North Gem Board will decide whether to pursue further steps.

New Grace School District Hires Third Grade Teacher

Miss Denice M. Hansen takes a Grace elementary third grade post. A Sheri dan Wyoming native, she graduated in 1967 from USA with a bachelor's in elementary education. Her father’s State Department job abroad exposed her to Port-au-Prince Haiti, Panama City Republic of Panama, La Paz Bolivia, Maiduguri Nigeria, and travel across Latin America Africa and Europe.
