Phosphate Lands Up for Lease in Caribou County

Three parcels totaling about 1620 acres in Caribou County are advertised for lease by the Bureau of Land Management. Parcel one covers 240 acres north of Conda owned by Richard Torgesen Keetch and Stucki. parcel two contains 600 acres near the northeast fleet with owners Loren Neff George Butterfield Roland Allen and the U S Forest Service. parcel three is about 780 acres adjacent to parcel one owned by J H Stocking and the Forest Service. Government retains title to phosphate while owners hold surface rights. The sale will be held at the BML Boise office on March 4.

North Gem and Soda Springs battled to a fair score until the second half when the Cowboys surged to a 1 point lead. Dell Maughan led North Gem with 17 points and Brent Maughan topped the Cardinals. Coach Ed Wessell warned a strong Soda Springs showing.

Caribou County Snowfall Hits Eleven Year Low

Snow survey shows Caribou County total snowfall 11 year low at 65 inches of water for the season. China Hat reports 13.2 inches snow and 26 inches water with eleven year average 21.1 inches snow and 3.4 inches water. Somsen Ranch records 23.2 inches snow and 4.8 inches water, with last year at this time 31.9 inches snow and 6.8 inches water. William Meccis Caribou county deputy sheriff spoke on safe writing of checks and precautions at a Peace Officers meeting in Grace. The dinner event in Bob's dining room was led by John Van Vleet of Gracemarne. Recommendations were to be sent to the Idaho legislature via Secretary Lee Wallace. Caribou Cutters Plan Yellowstone Trip and Races

Caribou cutters will journey to Preston Saturday to meet the Cache valley cutters. The following week they will travel to West Yellowstone at which Invited the Caribou group to compete in the cutter races. Dog team races also will be staged. The Fist Ward Green and Gold Ball will be held February 12 with details to be announced next week.

Mrs. Art Kelly recalls a week in Mexico with Mr. Kelly and the Morris couple traveling by car via Nagles on a new highway to Mexico City opened Jan 8. They witnessed a bull fight, noted Sanitation issues, poverty and Catholic churches, and described food limits, street milk, and local labor.
