Flood fears near Bancroft eased as preventive sandbagging by about 25 National Guardsmen from Pocatello protected the railroad dyke and town. Cowboys Defeat Kimberly Then Fall to Hansen in Split

North Gem scraped a 68 45 Friday win over Kimberly as Steve Maxwell poured in 30 points. Grace defeated Cokeville 59 43 Friday with a fast start and 28 12 halftime lead. Barthlome led Grace with 20 points while Young added 13 as Cokeville’s Bird led the night with 24. Gas Shut Off To Interruptible Service Customers

Severe cold in the Pacific Northwest last week caused a natural gas shut off to all interruptible customers on a southern Idaho line. Affected were Kermac Nuclear Fuels Variadium, Monsanto, Lamb Weston at American Falls, and J. R. Simplot and Ore-Ida plants in Burley. Intermountain Gas Co official cited cold, plus compressor trouble on the Canadian link, with no homes or businesses in the area affected.

The past 16 days brought a full winter gamut in East Idaho. Subzero temperatures in Soda Springs reached 30 below, then 23 below. Blizzard winds caused travel disruption, with snow turning to rain and high runoff on roads between Soda Springs and Pocatello. Waterfowl Season Open Until Jan 7 in Idaho

The Idaho Fish and Game Department notes that all migratory waterfowl hunting continues statewide until January 7. Goose season ends on January 7, and certain northern and southwestern counties remain open for duck shooting until January 24. Allied Steel Donates $250 to SSHS Athletes

Allied Steel Erectors presented $250 gifts to the athletic departments of Poca tello, Blackfoot, and Soda Springs High Schools. Art Hartman said the company previously spent about $1000 on individual gifts and chose to direct funds to community activity.
