Junior Class portrayed roles in a Nativity story with Reed Balls Craig Wheeler and youth offerings were presented.
Flood fears near Bancroft eased as preventive sandbagging by about 25 National Guardsmen from Pocatello protected the railroad dyke and town. Residents and officials credited guardsmen and locals for avoiding water intrusion while highway closures rerouted traffic through Preston due to dangerous washouts between Bancroft and Lava.
Rudolph gains fame as Santa's ninth reindeer beyond the 1823 Moore poem. First featured in a 1939 song by John Marks, Rudolph's red nose turned mockery into heroism and solidified his place in yuletide legend.

The Soda Springs Post Office will close for window service on Christmas Day December 25 and also on Saturday December 26 and Sunday December 27 in line with all U S post offices.
North Gem scraped a 68 45 Friday win over Kimberly as Steve Maxwell poured in 30 points. Grace then lost to Malad 71 50 in Malad, as four Grace players fouled out and Malad hit 29 of 51 free throws. Colton led Malad with 20, Harris 17, Barnes 10. Barthlome had 9 for Grace, Panter 7, Conlin 7. Grace hosts Star Valley Wednesday and cancels the Jan 2 Firth game.

Mr and Mrs Ken Fowler travel from home on Wednesday to Las Vegas Nevada to visit their son Kent Fowler and family for the holiday season with plans to stay several days.
Severe cold in the Pacific Northwest last week caused a natural gas shut off to all interruptible customers on a southern Idaho line. Affected were Kermac Nuclear Fuels Variadium, Monsanto, Lamb Weston at American Falls, and J. R. Simplot and Ore-Ida plants in Burley. Intermountain Gas Co official cited cold, plus compressor trouble on the Canadian link, with no homes or businesses in the area affected.
The Soda Springs Cardinals edged the Montpelier Bears 56-55 in a non league boys basketball battle. Preston Phelps scored 14, Lynn Merrill 11, and Steve Jones 12 for Soda Springs while Larson led Montpelier with 19. Both teams shot 20 percent from the field. Soda Springs drew ahead 16-15 at the free throw line.
Soda Cagers lost 58 to 52 to Marsh Valley in a Friday non league game at Soda. Marsh Valley led by 16 before Soda rallied to within four late in the third, then the visitors sealed the win in the final minute. Johnston led Soda with 16 points and Phelps added 13.
Mr and Mrs H M Humphreys of Ashton Idaho recently visited at the home of Mr and Mrs Lyman Martineau in Soda Springs.
The past 16 days brought a full winter gamut in East Idaho. Subzero temperatures in Soda Springs reached 30 below, then 23 below. Blizzard winds caused travel disruption, with snow turning to rain and high runoff on roads between Soda Springs and Pocatello. No flooding reported. school bus routes reported precarious driving earlier in the week.
The Idaho Fish and Game Department notes that all migratory waterfowl hunting continues statewide until January 7. Goose season ends on January 7, and certain northern and southwestern counties remain open for duck shooting until January 24. Extra mallard counties and new license requirements are outlined for 1964 65 migratory waterfowl season.
Allied Steel Erectors presented $250 gifts to the athletic departments of Poca tello, Blackfoot, and Soda Springs High Schools. Art Hartman said the company previously spent about $1000 on individual gifts and chose to direct funds to community activity. The donations have no stipulations and can be used at each school’s discretion.
