Hansen to a December 22 meeting in Soda Springs invites all organizations and groups to appear at the Court House from 4:00 p.m. for congressional talk or other invited discussions. Includes names of attendees and notes on fleet training operations and personnel in the Western Pacific context.
Caribou County residents must pay the 1964 property taxes at the treasurer’s office by Monday. A 2 percent penalty and 8 percent yearly interest apply to delinquent amounts. Taxes may be paid in two installments, with the second not delinquent until June 20, 1965 if the first is paid on time. Tax books close Monday at 5 p.m. until Jan. 25. Treasurer Doris Irving reports steady collections.
Soda Springs defeats Montpelier Bears 52-45 at Montpelier with Lonnie Johnston scoring 16 and Preston Phelps 12 to lead the victors. Montpelier’s Shep ard tops Bears with 16 points as Rockland 56 Soda 43 tops in another game.
The Federal Land Bank Association of Preston declares a 41673 dollar dividend to stockholders from a 1200000 dollar Spokane bank dividend. The Preston group is one of 61 associations in four northwest states owning Spokane Bank capital stock. Over 850 farmers and stockmen in Franklin, Caribou, Oneida, Bear Lake and Bannock counties will share the payment. The Spokane bank’s 1,206,000 dollar dividend is the largest in its 47 year history, bringing total dividends since 1944 to 7,800,000 dollars.
Three Peterson children escaped injury when a Hughes Trailer Park trailer home burned at 7:15 am. Mrs. Dick Fisher entered the blaze to rescue the two year old girl but both escaped unharmed as the trailer exploded behind her. Nothing was salvaged from the home.
Six more shopping days remain as Soda Springs stores plan extended hours. Most business houses stay open Friday evening December 18 from 6 to 8 and again December 21 to 23 in the same 6 to 8 window ready to serve customers.
Santa Claus will make his final pre Christmas appearance in Soda Springs on Saturday to take last minute orders from youngsters. His schedule lists stops at Penney's City Drug Alice Joy Shop Chadwick's Western Auto Store Sanders Furniture Ray Horner Co. Variety Ern's Sport Center Block's Eastman Drug with times from noon to 4:00 PM.
Three grand prizes from the Soda Springs Chamber of Commerce will be given at City Hall at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday December 19. Tickets issued since November 19 are eligible, and winners must be present. Prizes include a Zenith portable stereo system, a General Electric portable TV, and a Winchester 30.06 Model 70 rifle.
The Harlem Showboats billed as the World s Craziest Basketball Team will face a Grace area picked squad tonight at the Grace High School gym. Star players include Stretch Redmond Suitcase Shepard Bo Crain Pistol Pete McNeal and Cool Papa Wilson. Admission is 1.00 for adults 50c for students.
Sunday dinner guests at Mr and Mrs George Birger included Mr and Mrs Percy Benedict and family and Mr and Mrs Charles Higgins and their son.
Santa Claus will appear in Grace this Saturday with a free children's show at noon in the Grace Theater. He then arrives at City Park around 2:00 p.m. Candy and nuts are donated by local groups, and gift certificates will be drawn at 11:00 a.m. for attendees.
The Rocky Mountain Cutter Racing Association schedules a Saturday 1:30 p.m. meet at Grace for internal racing to open the cutter race season. Pairings include Rae Sorenson versus Daryl Sparks, Ben Jacobson versus Don Clark, Johnny Wells versus Merril Lloyd, Hy McLain versus Ted Beus, Keith Barthlome versus Art Van Ormond, Owen Jacobson versus Orval Dimmick, Vester Olsen versus Dean Kunz, Floyd Sorenson against Skinny Bridges.
County Assessor J F Bud Woodall says sales of car and truck license plates are slow this year. He warns reserved numbers must be picked up before December 28 or the plates go to general sale.
Grace Red Devils defeated Raft River 78-36 on Friday with Barthiome 18 Panzer 17 Christensen 12 among double figures. Saturday they beat North Rich 73-59 led by Barthlome 16 Panter 16 Rasmussen 12 Anderson 10 while Hansen 18 and Robinson 16 for North Rich. Grace travels to Cokeville Friday and Malad Saturday.
Idaho State Highway department opened bids for the Cleve land-Thatcher 4.015 mile section of the Preston Grace highway. Project includes roadway irrigation structures and a 20 foot concrete culvert with bids due January 5 in Boise and 200 calendar days for completion. Remaining two sections from Preston to Grace still to be built.
An earlier figure listed Grace School District in Caribou County at 3 638 516.00. The district spans Caribou Franklin and Bannock counties, making total valuation 4 302 526.00.
North Gem High split weekend boys basketball with a 57-38 win over Raft River and a 65-45 loss to Aberdeen. DeLos Perkins led with 23 against Aberdeen and 16 versus Raft River as North Gem hit a higher field percentage than foes. The Cowboys travel to Kimberly and Hansen this weekend then host Marsh Valley next Wednesday.
North Gem wrestlers posted three wins and one defeat in two weeks. The Cowboys beat Soda Springs Preston and Aberdeen, losing to Grace. Individual pin and decision results are listed with Yost Cheirrett Petell Gratzer Darlington among the victors. The next match is against Montpelier at North Gem Saturday at 5 p.m.
