Farmers in Caribou County may use diverted acres for haying and grazing with prior ASC County Committee approval. The emergency move helps supply forage as drought lowers pasture, covering land in Conservation Reserve Cropland Adjustment and other programs. Group Forms to Seek Change in Assessments Law
A Sandpoint area farmer said a new group, the Taxagers Protective Association, formed to amend Idaho's 1965 equalization of assessment law. President H. F. Samuels argued the measure enables rising taxes and "dictatorship" by the State Tax Commission, urging governor candidates to promise ceiling limits on real property taxes. He cited a 1965 report to Gov Smylie showing many Bonner County farmers could not meet current taxes, warning of foreclosures and farm losses under the law.
