Democratic candidate from Idaho will hold a public meeting at the County Court House in Soda Springs. Ralph will assist and attendees are invited to learn his campaign plans and introduce themselves at the open session.
Ladies morning bowling standings as of August 4 list Tricky Trio and A Go Go Girls at 15-5 each, Dreamers and Kitty Kats 12-8, Hit and Missers 9-11, Dumb Dudes 8-11, High Hopes 4-15, Wayward Ones 4-17. A Go Go Girls hold the high team series at 1620. Dumb Dodes lead high team game at 574. Donna Bigelow defends high individual series at 498 and high individual game with unknown value.
The St Anthony All-Stars defeated Ogden 21 in the Soda Springs Pony League Invitational final behind Larry Davis three hit pitching. St Anthony had earlier beaten Rigby 7 6 to reach the title game while Ogden earned a bye into the final after two wins. Rexburg beat Ashton 10 0 for Consolation honors and the Sportsmanship Trophy went to Bancroft.
Floyd Iverson of the US Forest Service Ogden Utah warns fire danger is near extreme in the Intermountain Region. If trends don’t reverse, this season could set record wildfire severity and requires public cooperation to cut losses. Weather Bureau data show drought persists with Utah precipitation 38 to 69 percent of normal March through June 1968.
The Caribou County Fair and Rodeo opens with the Junior Parade at 11:30 am and Little Buckaroo Rodeo at 8:00 pm. King and Queen of the Junior Rodeo named Casey Hogan and Debbie Elsmore, with attendants from Thatcher, Grace, and Niter. The schedule includes halter judging, a Cow Cutting Contest, Senior Parade Friday night, Idaho Cowboys Rodeo at 8:00 pm Friday and Saturday, chuck wagon breakfast, and a TV star visit for youngsters.
A forest fire near Garden Creek burned about 49 acres and was extinguished Saturday afternoon by 38 firefighters. Ranger Roy H. Daniels said the unattended campfire caused the blaze, with damage to watersheds and firefighting costs near 6800 dollars. Charges for leaving a campfire unattended are expected against a camper.
Earl Higginson of Bancroft ranks among nine College of Engineering students at the University of Idaho with a perfect 4.0 GPA for the second semester. He is in Chemical Engineering, completed his second year in June, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Higginson. He graduated from North Gem High School in 1964.
Soda Springs School District board accepts Brennan Construction Company of Pocatello as low bidder for a new elementary school. Base bid 829114 dollars, seven bids reviewed with alternates. Work to start immediately. school to open for 1667 68 term. Also approves Standard Oil gasoline at 19.47 cents per gallon and Roland Dairy milk for hot lunch at 5.7 cents per half pint.
Coach Percy Benedict announced high school football workouts begin August 20 with physicals for sophomores juniors and seniors August 15 at 5 30 p m in the high school gym Equipment for upperclassmen will be issued August 19 at 9 00 a m Freshmen will be called later for physicals and equipment A 10 day practice requirement applies before first game Sept 2 vs North Gem then a 10 game schedule includes Montpelier Malad Preston Aberdeen Jerome American Falls Grace Marsh Valley Snake River
Supt. DeWayne Christensen announces the teaching complement for North Gem Schools is filled with new appointments. Louise P Young from Soda Springs joins home economics art girls physical education and elementary library. other hires include Lucy W. Martin remedial reading and English. Ronald Cole physics chemistry and mathematics. Evan W. Hayes social studies physical education and coaching. Robert Monson teaches seminary. Existing staff include Bitton and Bassett in 7th grade, Christensen remedial reading, Crump vocational agriculture, Davids commercial, Gunnell library and drama, Higginson grades 7 8 English and reading, Shaw elementary music and band, Hogan replaces R D Palmer as homeroom principal. Palmer moves to Grace Schools, Bell moves to University of Idaho Moscow. Elementary staff list also notes Mickelsen 1st grade Hogan 2nd grade Jenkins 3rd grade Millward 4th grade Larsen 5th grade Sorenson 5th grade now back in elementary. A strong faculty is planned for a productive year with many physical improvements to the school plant.
Soda Springs councilman R V Bitton was named one of six directors of the Association of Idaho Cities for a two year term at the Coeur d Alene convention July 14 to 16. Also attending were Chris Phelps and Max Snell from Soda Springs.
The Hospital Auxiliary sponsors a Name Your Own Price sale at the Masonic Hall in Soda Springs on Monday and Tuesday August 15 and 16 from 9:00 to 8:00 both days. Previous Odds and Ends sales funded county hospital projects.
