Ohio State University in Columbus hosts the annual high school day on Saturday October 7 as the Missouri Tigers visit the Scarlet and Gray. A new university rule restricts student tickets to upperclassmen, delaying underclassmen’s participation.
Last Monday morning Miss Jua niita McComb delighted two large groups of pupils in the auditorium with chalk talks clay modelling and bird imitations. She particularly pleased younger pupils from Col Crawford West and Our Lady of Consolation schools.
John Sloan, a Duke-educated Lyceum entertainer, will present a liquid air demonstration in the school auditorium Friday morning October 13. The show uses a material far below freezing with potential military explosive risks. Admission is 15 cents for adults and 5 cents for students.
David Weiser, son of Rev W W Weiser new Methodist minister, joins Carey High after transferring from Johnstown high. In the football opener Carey defeated Mt Gilead 6 to 0, with Heck returning a punt for the only score and a late drive halted by a clipping call. Pieracini Michaels and Heck starred in a 75 yard third quarter play nullified by penalty.
Very Reverend Anthony Hodapp and a long list of Franciscan order members attend the final week of the annual retreat at the local Shrine. Names cover provinces in Michigan Indiana Wisconsin Illinois and Kentucky with multiple reverends and dignitaries noted.
Announcement reports the marriage of Dr Kathleen Imbody daughter of Mr and Mrs Perry Imbody Richwood to Theodore G Roszmann son of Mrs Idas Roszmann Columbus. The ceremony was Sept 2 at a Lexington Kentucky Methodist church officiated by Rev H G Wittiker. The bride trained at Richwood High 1925 and National College of Chiropractic Chicago now with the state welfare dept Marysville. Roszmann an electrical engineer from Harding High Marion and Chicago University, with Jaeger Manufacturing Columbus. The bride is also known as Mrs I G McDaniel in Carey.
The Carey Knights of Columbus held their second September meeting Tuesday night. Reports outlined plans for the upcoming October 15 banquet by program chairman C. R. Lonsway. District Deputy Tom Dowd of Kenton spoke and invited a first degree initiation at Kenton on October 8, joined by Brother A M Brown.
Mrs William Sloman was hospitalized after burns on her feet from spilled grape butter at a Findlay home. Her granddaughter Gloria Lupton, four, suffered burns from hot water while visiting relatives in Tippecanoe City.
Halle Turnbell of Wharton has received a notice of eligibility from the Ohio state civil service commission for state highway patrolman after passing the civil service examination in Columbus. July 28 marks the first such examination held since 1936.
Mrs C A Williams of W South Street took first and second prizes for her asters in the annual flower show conducted by the Fostoria Woman's Garden Club.
A baby girl named Roberta Jane was welcomed Monday morning to Mr and Mrs Laverne Donaldson three miles east of Carey on the A G Collet farm. Mother and child are reported in good condition.
Sister M Stephanie, Mother General of the Dominican Sisters in the United States, recounts her Canonical visit to China. She details perilous air raids on Foochow, the voyage down the Min River by sampan and launch, the evacuation threats, and the steady endurance of Chinese faithful amid bombs and shortages. The letter to Mr and Mrs Henry Ball describes parting, friendship, and hope for a return to the United States.
Theodore Coppler 22 from Carey Ohio died after being struck by a car driven by Mr Mueller of Danville Indiana as he stepped from a curb near his home in Indianapolis. He was en route home from a grocery when killed. He was married to Florence Da Prata and survived by wife parents and eight siblings. Burial in St Marys cemetery followed Requiem High Mass.

The Philathea class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will meet next Monday evening at the home of Mrs Charles Cross on S Vance street. The time has been changed due to the quarterly conference on Tuesday evening. Mrs Florence Daymon will lead the lesson.

The September Carey Farmers Community club meeting at K of C hall included a coal story film from mine to consumer and piano duets by Vincent Krupp and Vincent Brown. Ice cream and coffee followed, with plans set for the Carey Kiwanis club entertainment next November.
W A Kemerley, 75, was struck by a 1936 Oldsmobile coupe driven by Louis Troiano 19 in front of the Wigwam. He suffered a head cut and broken leg, was knocked to the pavement, and taken by Bristoll’s ambulance to Findlay hospital.
The Very Reverend Paul Vollrath will deliver the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation address on WSPD Toledo Sunday October 1 at 4 30 p m This final program ends the current Shrine broadcasts until May 1940 The seminary choir will sing Adoro Te Devote and Ave Maris Stella There is no special pilgrimage that day due to the broadcast.
The Women of the Moose plan a banquet next Tuesday at the Moose hall for the losing attendance and membership contest side. Mrs. Clarence Crist leads the losers and Mrs. Clint Wisebaker leads the winners. John Williams of Bucyrus spoke after the business meeting and showed pictures of Mooseheart and Moosehaven.
Mrs W T Stombaugh was brought home Wednesday evening from Findlay hospital in the Bristoll ambulance after an emergency appendectomy performed 18 days ago due to a ruptured appendix. Her husband retrieved her and she is reported to be getting along nicely while staying with her parents on W Findlay Street.
The regular meeting of the Carey Schools Band Mothers Club will be held in the high school building on Monday evening October 2 at 730 oclock There will be election of officers All mothers of senior or junior band members are invited to attend and join the club There are no initiation or membership fees.
