Upperclassmen registered for next term as classes begin Monday. A short assembly featured announcements by Mr. Huffman and student cheers. A pep meeting and street parade are planned for Friday’s 2:30 game on the local field with a bonfire behind the school. The Cotton Blossoms will sing Thursday afternoon in the high school auditorium.
Carey High School defeated Arlington 26 to 7 on the road. Carey relied on a strong running game while Arlington’s lone score came on a kickoff return after the warning. The victory followed an early touchback that negated a Carey pass into the end zone. Carey linebacker rotation and fresh substitutes saw considerable action. Next Friday Carey hosts Calvert in the first league game, with tickets unchanged from last year.
Mayor S H Krebs orders police to arrest drivers using open cutouts and to curb fast reckless driving on Findlay and Vance streets after business hours. Penalties include a fine up to 50 dollars for a first offense and possible license suspension.
F. M. Niles 74, a prominent banker of Foledo and Findlay, died Wednesday in Findlay after 12 years' residence there. He had served as director of the First National Bank and Trust Co. of Findlay since 1887. His father Charles E. Niles was the bank’s first cashier and later its president.
A regional farming area reports two inches of rain in nine hours and successive showers through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Farmers fear delayed planting as corn stands weaken and a drought ending sermon reflects on the unexpected downpour.
John R. Gilkey of Mansfield spoke on the government wheat plan at the Community club meeting. Vitalis Wisner and Sherman Rangeler performed guitar banjo harmonica and vocals.refreshments were served by Ervin Wentling Urban Wangler and Charles Walters. Ed Kinley and J A Kimmel were guests with B E Hudson and Harry P Bardon also in attendance.
Kiwanis members held an informal session Monday evening with no speaker. They debated a Community Chest plan to replace multiple winter drives and boost welfare funding. last year about $600 was raised. If adopted, a single drive would fund local welfare work.
The Beech Grove church Ladies Aid met last Thursday at Mrs R Amd Jacobs in Carey with 21 members present. A pot luck dinner followed by sewing. Officers elected: president Mrs Jacobs, vice president Mrs Ray Hunter, secretary Mrs Floyd Herbert, treasurer Mrs Adam Herbert, pianist Mrs E F Shane, chorister Mrs Elwood Botkin. Flower committee: Mrs A C Shane, Mrs Willie Hunter, Mrs Ernest Shane. Next meeting at Mrs Botkin’s home in Wharton.
The diocese of Toledo will begin annual priest retreats next week with about 60 clergy visiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. Two additional groups will visit in the following weeks. Rev. George Rudrof O M C from Sea Side Park New Jersey will conduct the retreats.

Wyandot County community committees met in Upper Sandusky last Thursday to review wheat applications. Plans call for contracts after checking, then signatures from farmers before sending to Washington for fall payment checks. Attendees included Paul Krupp H. H. Wonder and Ralph Brown. chairmen will meet soon to form a county organization.
Mrs. A W Balsley attended the funeral of her nephew Jerry Alge two year old son of Mr and Mrs Lester Alge. Services were conducted Monday morning at St Michaels church after a sudden death from convulsions at a doctor’s office in Findlay.
The Wesleyan Guild class of the Methodist Sunday school will hold a social meeting Monday evening of next week at the home of Mrs. C. B. Myers on N Patterson Street. Committee in charge includes Mrs. Ray Tracy chairman, Mrs. Emory Ulrich, Mrs. Donald Kingsmore and Mrs. Myers.
The local board of education rehired the agricultural program by appointing Robert M. Kirkbride of Deerfield as teacher. He starts October 2 when the Smith-Hughes work commences.
An 8 pound son arrived Thursday morning to Mr and Mrs C W Sherman of E Brown Avenue. An 11 pound son followed Monday afternoon to Mr and Mrs Grover Bakies of West Street.
Charles Christman 29, an engine inspector for the railroad, was fatally injured near the roundhouse at Oak street end. Found with chest crushed, he died en route to St. Vincent's hospital. He lived with sister Florence Warner at 1453 Oak and is survived by wife Ruth and several relatives. Body to Parks funeral home in Bucyrus.
Police call for cooperation with the State Department of Motor Vehicles to enforce license plate display laws. Proper visibility is required and concealing plates with the bumper is unlawful. First offense carries a fine up to 50 dollars. S. H. Krebs.
Mr and Mrs George W Hickle quietly marked their 54th anniversary on Thursday at the Lasley home on Dow street Their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs David Lasley hosted the gathering Ed Shore of Findlay visited the Lasley home during the day
Frank Beatty of Clyde was arrested Monday night on a charge of driving through the city with the muffler cut-out open.

Pauline Cooper daughter of C A Cooper of near Carey wed Robert Wrasse son of Mr and Mrs Henry Wrasse of Adams Street in St John Lutheran church. Rev H Ward Grieb officiated. Bridesmaid Katharine Carlson Findlay best man Kent Mauenstein Bluffton. The couple left for Detroit and Chicago and will reside in Johnston apartments after October 1.
The American Legion Auxiliary held its season opener Monday electing President Mrs. C. C. Simonis First Vice President Mrs. J. T. Stombaugh Second Vice President Mrs. L. L. Bland Secretary Mrs. A. F. Byers and Treasurer Mrs. Charles Calmes. Installations are planned for the October meeting. Refreshments were provided by Mrs. Bland Mrs. R. C. Van Buren Mrs. Grover Snyder and Mrs. S. W. McChesney.
The Christ Lutheran church holds its annual congregational meeting this evening in the parish hall. Reports from church organizations cover the past year and church council members will be elected. A social hour follows the business session. all members and friends are urged to attend.
Dr. A. W. Balsley, a Central High Findlay graduate, will attend the alumni reunion tied to the Liberty Bell dedication at the new stadium. A tower houses the bell, formerly in the old high school, with services after the first half of the Fremont versus Findlay High football game.
Vincent Mitten gathered a larff ball in E F Thome's Conds on Wednesday. It weighed 12 ounces and measured 80% inches around appearing pure white. These unusual growths reach full size within 24 to 86 hours and are edible with a taste similar to mushrooms when fried in butter.
Miss May Mullholand and Mrs. Blanche Criger have attended the synodical convention of Lutheran missionary societies in Akron since Tuesday. Criger serves as a delegate for the Jennie Larmonth society, while Mullholand represents the Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary society.
Semi Pro teams from Sycamore Tiffin Carey and Galion played last week with Peters of Tiffin star on the mound in a tight 2 to 1 win over Sycamore. Carey beat Galion 4 to 3 late inning leadership from Tod Presnell and Keckler before Keckler left with a sore arm. Next Sunday the four clubs meet again on the local diamond with two seven inning games and a nine inning final. Ted Presnell will pitch for Carey and other stars include Dewey Stover Slick Cross and Frank Emmer. Admission 50 cents men 25 cents ladies. Games begin at 12 30 noon.
Mrs. Fla V. Miller of Vanlue is named as postmaster among four fourth class appointments by the post office department at Washington. An examination for the Vanlue office will be held at Carey high school on Saturday Oct 7 with three contestants Mrs. Miller Mrs Goldie Wisner and Hugh H Elder having qualified to take the exam.
The Philathea class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will meet Tuesday evening Oct 3 at the home of Mrs Harley Roynon north of town. Mrs Willis Dibie and Mrs Della Peterson assist as hostesses, Mrs Cora Hart and Mrs J G Essex serve on the entertainment committee, and Mrs Will Heck will lead the lesson study.
Charles Kelley of Cleveland succeeds Ross Fruth as manager of the Kroger store. Kelley has prior connection with the Bellefontaine location and will be joined by his wife later this week.
