School News Pep Rally Set for Carey Tiffin Calvert Game

Upperclassmen registered for next term as classes begin Monday. A short assembly featured announcements by Mr. Huffman and student cheers. A pep meeting and street parade are planned for Friday’s 2:30 game on the local field with a bonfire behind the school. The Cotton Blossoms will sing Thursday afternoon in the high school auditorium.

Carey High School Grabs 26 7 Win At Arlington

Carey High School defeated Arlington 26 to 7 on the road. Carey relied on a strong running game while Arlington’s lone score came on a kickoff return after the warning. The victory followed an early touchback that negated a Carey pass into the end zone. Carey linebacker rotation and fresh substitutes saw considerable action. Next Friday Carey hosts Calvert in the first league game, with tickets unchanged from last year.

Mayor Publishes Warning To Drivers On Cutouts And Reckless Driving

Mayor S H Krebs orders police to arrest drivers using open cutouts and to curb fast reckless driving on Findlay and Vance streets after business hours. Penalties include a fine up to 50 dollars for a first offense and possible license suspension.

Niles Bank Director Dies in Findlay at 74

F. M. Niles 74, a prominent banker of Foledo and Findlay, died Wednesday in Findlay after 12 years' residence there. He had served as director of the First National Bank and Trust Co. of Findlay since 1887. His father Charles E. Niles was the bank’s first cashier and later its president.

A regional farming area reports two inches of rain in nine hours and successive showers through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Farmers fear delayed planting as corn stands weaken and a drought ending sermon reflects on the unexpected downpour.

Kiwanis Discusses Community Chest Plan At Meeting

Kiwanis members held an informal session Monday evening with no speaker. They debated a Community Chest plan to replace multiple winter drives and boost welfare funding. last year about $600 was raised. If adopted, a single drive would fund local welfare work.

The Beech Grove church Ladies Aid met last Thursday at Mrs R Amd Jacobs in Carey with 21 members present. A pot luck dinner followed by sewing. Diocesan Retreats Open with 60 Priests Visit Shrine

The diocese of Toledo will begin annual priest retreats next week with about 60 clergy visiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. Two additional groups will visit in the following weeks. Rev. George Rudrof O M C from Sea Side Park New Jersey will conduct the retreats.

Wyandot County Wheat Applications Meeting Planned

Wyandot County community committees met in Upper Sandusky last Thursday to review wheat applications. Plans call for contracts after checking, then signatures from farmers before sending to Washington for fall payment checks. Attendees included Paul Krupp H. H. Funeral services held for infant Jerry Alge in Findlay

Mrs. A W Balsley attended the funeral of her nephew Jerry Alge two year old son of Mr and Mrs Lester Alge. Services were conducted Monday morning at St Michaels church after a sudden death from convulsions at a doctor’s office in Findlay.

Christman Dies After Oak Street Roundhouse Accident

Charles Christman 29, an engine inspector for the railroad, was fatally injured near the roundhouse at Oak street end. Found with chest crushed, he died en route to St. Vincent's hospital. He lived with sister Florence Warner at 1453 Oak and is survived by wife Ruth and several relatives. Body to Parks funeral home in Bucyrus.

Semi Pro teams from Sycamore Tiffin Carey and Galion played last week with Peters of Tiffin star on the mound in a tight 2 to 1 win over Sycamore. Carey beat Galion 4 to 3 late inning leadership from Tod Presnell and Keckler before Keckler left with a sore arm. Next Sunday the four clubs meet again on the local diamond with two seven inning games and a nine inning final. Ted Presnell will pitch for Carey and other stars include Dewey Stover Slick Cross and Frank Emmer. Admission 50 cents men 25 cents ladies. Games begin at 12 30 noon.

Four appointed postmasters named for Ohio towns

Mrs. Fla V. Miller of Vanlue is named as postmaster among four fourth class appointments by the post office department at Washington.
