Paul McArthur manager of the local Kroger Grocery Bakery won first prize for the highest average volume during a 90 day sales campaign. He received a wrist watch bought from G H Follott, local jeweler. The Carey store lies in District No. 20 under supervisor Curtis Guy. McArthur, a South Carolina native, has been with Kroger a little over two years.

School Operis Plans to Open Monday for New Year
The Carey village schools will open Monday September 30 with six grades moved to the new wings of the high school until the new grade building is finished. First, second, third, fifth, seventh and eighth grades will be in the old West building as in the past while grades four and six move to the new wings. Registration for freshmen is set for September 27–28 with W C Huffman coordinating schedules. Textbooks and supplies lists for each grade are detailed, including specific titles and publishers, with eighth grade covering civics and history in two semesters.

Mrs Opper Dies After Illness At Findlay Home
Sylvia Robison Opper, aged 58 years, widow of John Opper, died Sunday afternoon at the Findlay Home and Hospital from bowels destruction after a brief illness. She was born May 19, 1876 in Ridge township and married April 16, 1895. Survived by three children James Opper Bryan Opper and Mrs Clarence Fox, six grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers. Funeral held at St Paul church south of Vanlue with Rev Guy Miller officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Ridge quartet provided music. Pallbearers were her two sons and four brothers.

Tom Hucke Injured In Auto Collision Near Warren
Last Sunday afternoon Tom Hucke son of Mr and Mrs Christ Hucke east of town was seriously injured in an auto collision near Warren. A truck blocked vision and a Buick from the opposite direction collided head on. Tom was thrown down an embankment and suffered a broken collar bone and elbow. Illness of Frank Kitzler With Blood Poisoning
Mr and Mrs F A Kitzler and Mrs McLaughlin traveled to Springfield Friday evening after their brother Frank Kitzler fell ill with blood poisoning. A knee injury had an initial car accident involved and the infection developed after being lanced. He is slowly improving. The Kutzlers and Mrs McLaughlin returned home Friday night while Mrs Kentfield stayed to help care for him.
