Neys' Reporter Louis Allen notes chapel started Monday morning with singing of America the Beautiful. Doris Ruehle read scripture. A song Sailing was sung. Mr Huffman announced details as the period continued with a pep talk. Miss Finfey led aDep session for students.
The Béniorclags election was held on Wednesday September 7. Offic ers elected were President Cloyce Wentling Vice President Karl Bame Secretary Treasurer John Myers. Cloyce Wentling and Richard Harris were chosen for the student council. The annual staff will be chosen at a later special meeting.
The Freshman class elected officers: President Robert Heck and Vice President John Mullholand. Secretary treasurer Virginia Patterson. Student council members include Marjorie Audritch and Edward Messmer.
The annual lyceum ticket sale begins with Junior and Senior classes sharing duties. If sales hit $200 both classes may receive a half holiday. the top selling class gets $10. Town divided into east and west of Vance street. contest closes with the first lyceum number.
The high school orchestra held its initial rehearsal in the music room led by Miss Millicent War Tren. A tentative roster lists violins Evelyn Hosafros Ruth Buckley Doris Buehle Sylvester Jesko Hubert Yost, clarinets Dean Baker Helen Wyatt Donald Deidrick, trombone Dean Powell, baritone John Myers, melophone Arthur Brown, saxophones Mary Elizabeth Kendrick Karl Bame, drums Le Moine Fagan, with Helen Beebe on piano. An assistant pianist will be chosen later. Eldon Dame and Dale Mathern, newcomers, may assist with drums.
The Girls Glee Club directed by Miss Finley met for its first practice on Monday. The group, comprising 55 members, gathered to begin the season and plan performances.
North Baltimore prepares for the season opener with a peppy squad sure to give their all. The Blue and Whites show strong practice, featuring punting tackling and signal work as two new foes Vanlue and Bloomdale join the schedule. A big crowd is expected with both Carey and North Baltimore bands to perform.
Menus list weekday meals with prices from five to six cents. Items include soups sandwiches potatoes vegetables desserts and beverages such as cocoa and milk. The schedule shows Monday through Wednesday offerings with items like bean soup chili con carne and ham sandwich.
Mrs Edward Leopold died Sunday morning at about 8 from a cerebral hemorrhage while assisting her husband move furniture. Dr Crosby attended. Born April 7 1870 in Gallipolis she was married to Edward Leopold August 20 1920. Survived by husband and children Earl Kingston Mont Jenks Marcella Paul Jenks Harvey Jenks Mrs Ethet Posterman Bas Att Miss Faihe Robinette Mrs Lilian Deckard Mrs Saratt Ann Carmen. Funeral held in Akron with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Carey Merchants schedule season opener against Bradner at Carey high school grounds next Sunday afternoon with a 2 30 p m kickoff. Admission 50 cents, ladies 25 cents. Team combines Carey and Upper Sandusky players and aims for stronger crowds and better sport. Joe Schira named manager and Harry Bowman coach at last Thursday meeting.
The Happy Hour Sewing Club led by Mrs. Clinton Baker won four first prizes at the county fair including stand ing of club general exhibit secretary's book and largest group in the parade. The club took a second prize for its float. The Domestic Art Club led by Mrs. Allan Baker earned second prize on general exhibit and third on secretary's book. Ayershire Calf Club members claimed top seven places with Malph Derr first and Mike Vaughn seventh.
Twenty five Kiwanis members attended a Monday noon luncheon at the Galt restaurant. Mrs. R J Turrell performed two whistling solos. A resolution to improve Route 103 between Carey and Mt Blanchard was adopted. petition signatures gathered from residents along the route. A tearing occurred in Findlay Tuesday.
The Times shows two large ears of red corn raised by F. W. Eakin from southwest of town. Eakin does not know the variety, saying the seed came from Michigan via his brother, and he asks if anyone else has corn as nice.
Mr and Mrs Ross Johnson and daughter Barbara traveled to South Bend Indiana where Gail Lanker drove the Johnson Special in a Playland Park event. Lanker finished third in the 25 mile race with Ralph Lanker accompanying Gail to the meet.
Carl W. Smith of Kenton Democratic candidate for Congress met with supporters in town on Wednesday. He greeted many friends and discussed his campaign goals and vision for the district.
A 1920s style menu lists beverages and foods with prices including Cocoa 3 to 8 cents Milk 5 cents Friday chowder 5 cents Creamed Potatoes 5 cents Cheese sandwiches 5 to 6 cents Hamburger 5 or 6 cents and assorted desserts such as Butterscotch Pudding and Seydas Cookies all offered at economical rates.
Carey village council met Monday approving numerous bills including salaries for town officials and staff for September and August. The meeting also covered street work, a new traffic light installation, jail concerns, and a donation of iron boxes for street light announcements.
A. B. E. Thomas comedy Her Husband's Wife will be presented in the high school auditorium Thursday evening October 2 by a professional New York cast. The plot centers on Meg who plans to replace her husband with a second wife, leading to humorous complications and a happy ending.

Mrs. Margaret Southivard displays a rare colchicum autumnale in the Carey Times window. The bulb grows in a waterless cup with lavender pink spikes, will bear about 16 flowers, then sleep through winter, and be planted in the ground after blooming with new bulbs forming for blooms in future years.
Ernest Kitzler returned to Oklahoma City early this morning after a two week visit at his parents home. He spent a day with his sister Margaret Kitzler a supervisor at Grant hospital in Columbus and has been with his aunt Dr Esther Campbell in Oklahoma City. He works in a grocery store and attends a Curtiss Wright aviation school having completed his ground school.
Wm Stillberger of south of Carey underwent a cataract removal on the right eye at the Home and Hospital Findlay. Dr Wynn of Findlay performed the operation, described as very successful. He can see light through the bandages and plans the left eye operation soon.
J F Dible bought the Arnold Hayman property on E Findlay Street on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Hayman of east of Sycamore were in town to complete the transfer. The Feasel agency arranged the deal.
Local social notes list D A Capell on a business trip to Cleveland on Wednesday. Charles Spitler left Tuesday to resume studies at Ohio State University. Several couples and individuals spent days in Findlay and Springfield for trips, visits, and the Pythian Sisters convention. A wedding trip couple returned and resides at Keller apartments. Families drove four new Whippet Six Standard sedans from Toledo for McDaniel Co.
Country Editor notes a playful comparison of a chicken hawk and a great horned owl in a conservation exhibit. The owl, named Hooty Owl, intimidates and defeats two hawks, Billy Hawk, demonstrating its feared strength and quick reflexes in a staged encounter.
Department of Agriculture officials praise Oxford May's Int. Owl, a Jersey bull, for being trained to harness to an ox cart. The animal stays fit and gentle by carting loads daily, using commands gee haw and whoa back, and remains a reliable breeder year round.
A young man surrendered an illegally operated fish net in his home streams and said he would soon marry and turn over a new leaf. The game protector praises the incident as a sign of growing respect for law and natural resources.
Farmers with short corn crops can save money by substituting wheat or barley on a one to one basis for corn in same feeding patterns. When corn is $1 a bushel the value of wheat for poultry and sheep is about $1.07 and for hogs and beef cattle about $1.12. Cracked wheat or cracked barley fed alone or mixed equals the feeding value of corn per pound.
State reports show squirrels plentiful along watercourses and woods with mast and corn, while some areas are sparse. Rabbits also abundant ahead of the November 1 rabbit season, signaling strong shooting prospects for Ohio hunters this year. Squirrels along the Ohio River, the Muskingum, lower Scioto, and the Miami are especially plentiful.
The Carey Farmers Community Club schedules a regular meeting for next Monday evening September 29 at the Moosehall. A good program is arranged and every member is urged to attend, with a request to bring a new member.
The C K of O will hold a card social at their hall Thursday evening October 2. Members families and friends are invited.
The Grand Temple of Pythian Sisters will hold a three day meeting in Springfield from September 22 through 24. Members are scheduled to gather for ceremonies reports and organizational business in the city venue.
