Hazel Lucille Stroub daughter of Mr and Mrs George Stroub near town died Monday September 13 aged one year two months thirteen days born June 20 1908. Funeral held at Lee church with Rev H L Snyder officiating pallbearers and flowers listed. Attendees included Ora Stroub Upper Sandusky and Don Stroud Findlay among others. Lecture series for coming season announced with dates and speakers including Phillip Willett Byron W King and Fitch B Cooper.
I J Vigor left Tuesday at noon to visit Glasgow Havre and Great Falls in northeastern Montana for about two weeks to survey the country. Mr and Mrs H F Graves Mrs M A Straw and daughter Lucy and Miss Jeannette DeWitt rode with Mrs Stan in her car Sunday to West Millgrove Wood County where they visited W S DeWitt.
About twenty five Carey members attended the Catholic Knights of Ohio convention in Tiffin. A Pontifical High Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's church by Bishop Koudelka with twelve priests. The New Beigl band performed as attendees met the Bishop at the priests' house. Carey delegates included Peter Krupp and Joseph Shumaker among many others.
A tax receipt dated November 13 1429 or 1419 shows John Lockrider paying forty cents tax on forty acres and twenty five cents on chattels, issued by John Matlack. A separate certificate from Brigadier General Sampson dated September 1847 notes Joseph Luck rider, father of the townsman, had been armed and served five years.
Mr and Mrs Levi Haines received a cablegram from son James in Rio de Janeiro Brazil stating he will leave for the United States and reach New York City in the early part of October. Mr Haines has been away since July.
Friday evening the Will Entertain Club will host Miss Emma Stief to entertain at the regular meeting of the 1900 Club.
Manager DeWitt secures the play As Told in The Hills for the opening attraction at Smyder's Opera House, promising a successful ninth theatrical season and drawing on prior city reception.
This week audiences meet Wah-ta-waso the Indian Princess and star of As Told In The Hills. Granddaughter of Red Jacket, she studied at Notre Dame Convent Montreal and speaks flawless English. Performance features comedy and specialty acts by Lyonel Leverton and Mlle. Ma Belle Friday September 24 at Snyder’s Opera House.
Sheldon Kleopfer heard a loud disturbance near his home and found a broken bottle and curtains in the morning. Neighbors say two racing buggies collided on the road, leaving a spill and mystery. City officials including Chambers and Stahl approved bills for sidewalk work as the situation improves.
Miss Greene, field organizer for the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, will occupy the pulpit at the M. E. church Sunday morning.
Benjamin Williams celebrated his ninetieth birthday in Pitt Township. Elks initiation took place in Upper Sandusky as Delois Hile joined the order. Stanton Lewis of Upper Sandusky broke a rib in a motorcycle accident. About 230 people attended the Crawford County Fair. Margaret Weinandy of Upper Sandusky was buried in St Peters cemetery with Requiem High Mass. Emmanuel Church in Pitt Township opened for worship with pre dedicatory services and a Sunday dedication to follow. Upper Sandusky M E Church seeks Rev J W Holland for another year, possibly his fifth. Eliza Bogard seeks a divorce from George Bogard on grounds of desertion and non support after three years apart. Recent real estate transfers in Carey and Dow's addition to Carey include multiple lots involving Adaline Hicks, Alonzo Ogg, Frank Ogg, James Ogg, and D C Hermes. David Hayes sold land in Salem Township to Henry Ridenour for 225 dollars. William Snook and wife, married in 1904, have one child now four. they divorced in 1966 with alimony and custody awarded. In 1967 William Jow asks common pleas court to stop alimony due to spouse’s property and capability to support, and seeks custody reform due to concerns about the child’s care.
A planned long distance auto relay run from Upper Sandusky to Fort Wayne was canceled after a rear tire failed near Obesonta twelve miles west of Reading, Pennsylvania. Reporter Larry Buckley of the Philadelphia Press was killed in the accident. The event involved N Cuneo of the Union Republican and others traveling to watch the start.
The house of Limer Wonder on North Vance Street nears completion praised as one of the city’s best. It features nine rooms besides hall and bath, an basement with five rooms, and plaster work nearly finished. Wonder has not decided how he will occupy the residence.
C Crisselle plans sun marked improvements at The Royal theater including an elevated floor new opera chairs and a new front. The upgrades aim to increase patron comfort and enhance the display of exhibitions at the Roya leatre.
