A Carey West school chorus for grades 3 and 4 and a Col. Crawford chorus for grades 3 through 7 performed over WMRN Marion during the Wyandot county fair on Friday. The program was directed by Miss Eleanor McChesney. Miss Marlene Lee played a piano solo and Miss Eileen Mott sang a soprano solo from the high school under Mr. Lewis Hawk's direction.
The Carey Blue Devil Band Majorettes were selected after a long test. Named are Joyce Myers head Joanne Long Anns Mae Bakies Diane Hotelling Doris Walter Babs Rettig and mascots Jan and Jon Till.
The Carey Shuffleboard club reorganized at a Tuesday meeting on September 9 at the courts. Elected were President L. N. Zahn, vice-president A. B E. Donelson, secretary treasurer Dorcas Donelson, and two year directors Zee Yentzer and Dr. S. R. Bame.
All MYF members of First Methodist Church urged to attend the district fall rally at Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon and evening September 21. Those going should contact Robert Cole who will be in charge of transportation. Cars depart the local church at 1:00 PM.

Pfc. James L. Gatchel 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Winter L. Gatchel of 153 Cleveland Ave, died in Korea after being wounded during training. A letter from the adjutant general explained the wound occurred in training by a fellow soldier. James Gatchel, born Oct 27 1934 in Bucyrus, enlisted Sept 1951, served on Koje Island and in Korea, survived by parents a brother and two sisters and several grandparents.
The YYM W of Wyandot County schedules a round and square dance in Carey Catholic Hall on Tuesday September 28 from 8 15 to 11 30. Admission is 60 cents.

In a hard fought opener, Carey High School defeated Oak Harbor 12 6 as Nye scored on a reverse and Lyle Orians plus strong defense, including tackles by Platt and Fox, kept the Harbor offense in check while Mt Vernon looms next week.

Ohio Northern University varsity football opens its season Saturday in Jonesboro Arkansas against State College of the city. David Myers son of Mr and Mrs Harry Myers of 118 N Munciestreet plays end and left with the team for Jonesboro. The squad has practiced since the first of the month as university classes resume September 29.
Howard Arndt of LaPorte Indiana has accepted the manager post at the Humus plant northwest of Carey succeeding the late T W Rodabaugh. His wife and children will move to Carey when suitable living quarters are available.
The J. T. club will meet Thursday afternoon September 25 with Mrs. Lewie Beis. A white elephant sale will be held at the gathering.
The Pythian Sisters announce a bake sale on October 11 starting at 10 30 a m at Dibles plumbing shop with proceeds likely for charitable causes.
At a Tuesday meeting of the Carey Businessmen’s Association held on September 9, Ray Peiffer was hired as part time promotion manager. Peiffer is a longtime Carey insurer and will help develop promotional ideas while continuing his insurance business.
Bernard's Furniture Store promotes Home Fashion Time from September 11 to 27 with the latest in styles upholstery fabrics and drapery. The event aims to inspire comfortable convenient and smart home living and invites customers to shop and view new pieces for better living.
The Men's Brotherhood of Christ Lutheran Church will meet tonight at 8 in the church social room with Rev. D V Whitenack as guest speaker. Mr and Mrs Wilbert Bohlen sold their five room Glen avenue residence east of Carsy to Mr and Mrs Theodore Fisher who plan to move soon. Broker John Risner arranged the deal. Robert Richardson and his mother will move from Glen Avenue to the Grove street home of Mr and Mrs Charles Heck in Ada.
The Pythian Sisters will meet this Thursday evening at 7 00 o clock in the Pythian hall. Refreshments. The most excellent chief urges all members who have not renewed their obligation to be present.
Crawford chapter No. 169 of the Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 8 p m Friday with initiatory work planned. Daisy Moyer serves as secretary.
Public dedication at Carey Memorial Park marks the opening of a new tennis court with a community exhibition featuring Ohio Wesleyan University teams. The court, funded by donations, will host afternoon play with doubles Bauman Taylor and DeVos Corey, and includes a 42 by 98 foot blacktop surface, steel net, and backstops.
Mrs. Jerome Bernard of 141 W North Street won first prize in the salad division for gelatin fruit salad and received a $10 check. Her Swiss cream pie earned honorable mention. Carey women phoned to congratulate, and Mrs Natalie Lanker also earned honorable mention for confetti casserole.

Carey aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles will institute its auxiliary Sunday September 21 at 2 p m. Charles Nixon will institute a deputy with drill and degree teams from Fremont auxiliary. An afternoon of fun and entertainment is planned. Lunch served at 6 30, floor show at 7, dance to Marion Rhythm Aces. no Saturday night dance.
Carey lodge No 420 F and A M will meet Monday evening September 22. Harry Rook, W M, presides as the worshipful master calls the session.
