Residence Fire Destroys House on South Street
A fire Monday forenoon swept through the residence of Frank Stroup on South Street opposite the United Brethren parsonage. Mrs. Mann, ironing nearby, could not prevent the flames from spreading due to dry conditions and lack of water. Firemen saved the household goods. upper rooms suffered ice and water damage while the roof and ceilings were wrecked. Loss amount unknown. the house is insured but contents are not.

Freight Car Fire After Train Transfer Near City
A Big Four freight car from Cincinnati to Toledo caught fire three miles south of the city. Firemen first extinguished the blaze after cutting the car from the train, but overnight the contents smoldered. The car held bales of coarse cloth used for glove manufacture. several bales burned and many others were scorched.

Death of Mrs. Mary Hare in Crawford township
Mrs. Mary Hare born Mary Warner in 1826 died at her daughter Mrs. George W. Croker’s home on September 10 1908 after five years of illness. She and husband John K. Hare raised nine children. six survive. Funeral was September 13 at the M E church with Rev. William Hook officiating and a quartet sang. Interment at Baker Cemetery. pallbearers named. Attending from out of town included relatives from Upper Sandusky Mt. Blanchard Toledo Bellefontaine Lima and Grand Rapids Michigan.

Fire near Snyder’s coal yards sparked near-miss
At noon Monday a fire alarm sounded twice amid excitement as a Hocking Valley locomotive dumped hot cinders near Snyder’s coal yards. The fire started but was extinguished before the fire department arrived.
