The docket of the September term of common pleas court records sixty eight civil cases including eleven money matters six injunctions a title quieting action alimony eleven appeals two receivers seven equitable relief actions ten divorces three damages cases one real estate sale eight partitions an accounting foreclosure actions three fund transfers a will contest and another matter.
City officials including Mayor Van Heyde and council members noted several paid bills for dirt hauling, mowing, coal, and street work. Names of vendors such as J. W. Weaks and Robert Drake appear with amounts listed. A complaint about west end youths handling air guns prompted plans to abate the nuisance and a request to meet railroad officials about crossings near the Porcelain plant.
Edward Goldrick of Washington D C, after two weeks in J L Adams horse shop, telegraphed for Miss Nancy Longbone of Upper Sandusky to wed. They were married Friday by Squire Robert E Carter and now room at Clarence Black home while plans for light housekeeping are made.
Miss Clara Newhard hosted a jolly evening at her North Vance Street home last Thursday. Guests dressed as children behaved well. Lucille Patterson won a small teapot in tea party, Dela Newcomer earned a doll pincushion for drawing a cow, and Maude Snyder received a paper doll as consolation. Supper followed the activities with several attendees named.
Miss Leah Orians hosted a Sunday evening gathering at her Upper Sandusky home. Guests included Miss Ruth Dow of this place Miss Fern Pierce of Upper Sandusky and Messrs George Passino of Toledo Adolph Bulhardt and Ray Plate of Upper Sandusky.
The Nineteen Hundred Club held a business meeting Saturday with Mrs. A H Kemerley presiding. Officers elected were Mrs. Kemerley president, Mrs. E B Kurtz vice president, and Mrs W McG secretary and treasurer. Mrs B Gillett retired for a year. two new members, Mrs J M Harrison and Mrs C G Spencer, were welcomed. A regular session is planned for next Thursday with Mrs J D Ewing.
Lay Delegate L G Ranger will attend the M E conference at Upper Sandusky this week as lay delegate from the local church. The lay delegates meet on Friday.
A Big Four freight and a Hocking Valley freight collided while climbing a grade near Alvada on the Hocking Valley railroad. The rear-end crash crushed conductor Clarence C. Chase, who died at the Galt House after receiving treatment from Drs. Southward Zeis and Van Buren. He leaves a wife from Springfield and two and four year old children. Funeral and burial details follow with a special train for colleagues and a large local floral display.
Ruth Ewing daughter of Mr and Mrs J D Ewing presented six classical organ numbers Sunday evening at the Lutheran church before a full audience in the church and Sunday school room. A Oberlin Conservatory student her first year work showed marked excellence in her art. The program reflected local talent and Carey may be proud. hopes for another similar performance are voiced.
The Central Ohio and North Ohio M E conferences plan a joint meeting at the Old Mission church in Upper Sandusky next Friday afternoon. About 300 delegates and pastors attend from across the region. North Ohio delegates, traveling by special train from Bucyrus, join the event for a discussion on missionary work.
Large yellow onions grown this summer by Royal Adams on his celery farm are shown in the window. He harvested half an acre yielding 382 bushels after cultivating the plot himself.
The funeral for Mrs M C Kloepfer was held from the home of her son in law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Charles, in Old Mission. The service reflected on her life and family, with relatives attending from nearby areas.
Miss Clara Herbert and Mr. George A. Bowen were married at Sulphur Springs on September 7. After November 15 they will reside in Medina New York. Miss Herbert previously lived with Carey and is sister to Rev. F. B. Herbert of Plymouth and Mrs. W. A. Crum of Upper Sandusky.
The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Edson of East Orange New Jersey born August 28 was christened Mary Louise Mrs. Edson formerly Miss Mary Gibbs and lived in Carey for several years before moving east.
Scott Long of this city displayed Single Comb Black Leghorns at the State Fair last week and won first premium on cock birds, first on cockerels, and first and second on pullets.
M B Smith reports the sale of the Harry Hunter residence on East Main street to Harvey Wonder who lives north of town. The consideration was $2,000 and Mr Wonder plans to build a new house on the lot in the future.
Mr and Mrs Wilford Presler of Springville hosted Sunday dinner for Mr and Mrs Ferdinand Dible and Mr N B Dible of this place. Also present were Mr and Mrs Carl Dible and son Harold of Kenton and Mr and Mrs James Wagner and daughter Martha Ellen of Sycamore.
G. W. Chesebrough captured a grass pike thirty five and a half inches long weighing eleven pounds during a Platte Lake trip. He used a steel rod, 100 feet of silk line, and a Cincinnati bass hook. The fish broke free as the net came in and the head is displayed at the grocery.
Miss Laura Hoff entertained a group of friends at her country home south of town on Monday evening. Guests included Miss Ruth Ewing Mae Cosgray Helen Parlette Irene Gillette Florence Dow guest Miss Marvel Bigelow Madge Barton Katherine McGuire and Adah Nichols.
Thomas Smith left Wednesday for Philadelphia then Atlantic City. Next week the National encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic will be held in Atlantic City. Philadelphia is Mr. Smith’s former home and he will visit relatives and friends there.
Complaint has been made that boys in various parts of the village are shooting air guns. There is danger this and the ordinances on the subject will be strictly enforced. A. Van Heypde, Mayor of Carey.
