Carey Band at Wy County Fair Night Parade and Races
Friday morning at the Wyandot county fair features the Horse Breeders Association colt judging. Afternoon races include a 2:16 trot 2:17 pace and a 122 dollar trot. The big parade follows with the American Legion drum corps and floats, plus Carey and Forest high school bands and free acts. Fireworks for children, aerial displays with national flags and novelty effects cap the program.

Carey Fire Department Responds To Two Incidents
Last Thursday about 5 PM the Carey fire department was called to the Donelson Packing Co plant on Frederick street where a smokehouse explosion caused over 1000 dollars of damage due to overheating. Late Sunday the department was dispatched to the Sherman residence on Frederick street for leaves burning with no damage reported.

Shelling Corn for Future Storage by Local Committee

Attorney General Thomas J Herbert ruled that mayors lacking police judges may appoint a justice of the peace to preside during illness or absence, but the acting official cannot claim fees from cases heard in that role. Fees from ordinance cases go to the municipal treasury, while in state statute cases the mayor’s fees go to the county treasury and must be paid by the acting justice to the county.

Metal silo collapses on farm northwest of Carey
A large metal silo on the E T Criger farm northwest of Carey collapsed last Thursday after the silage acid had corroded a seam near the base. No injuries were reported and only minor damage besides the silo loss occurred. The silage was moved to a neighboring silo.
