A books will be issued at Dare High School on Monday September 1 from 1 to 5 30 p m and 6 30 to 9 p m and on Tuesday September 12 from 1 to 5 30 p m Applicants must bring back of their present A book odorometer reading from their car and their registration certificates when applying for a new back This schedule will be followed in the two high schools in the county There will be no ration board meeting on Monday September 11 but the board will meet on Tuesday September 12

Williams Receives Combat Infantryman Badge in Southwest Pacific

Pfc Andrew Williams of Carey is awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for exemplary conduct in combat with the 37th Infantry Division in the Southwest Pacific. Son of Mr and Mrs Ray Williams, he began overseas service on September 7 1943 and first fought in the Bougainville campaign.

Goff Called as Nurse for War Service

Parl C. Goff of W Findlay street assistant to Dr H R Wynn eye ear and throat specialist in Findlay was classified as 1 E for service in the nurse corps and ordered to report to the nearest recruitment service as soon as she can be replaced in Wynn's office She appears to be the first nurse in the locality called into service.

L A Champ Becomes Division Superintendent

L A Champ of Springfield was named Superintendent of the Ohio division of the New York Central Lines on September 1, succeeding F A Dawson who moves to New York City as assistant freight traffic manager. New York Central Adopts Diesel Engines For Lines

Gustav Metzman, newly elected president, said the line uses two Diesel freight engines and expects several Diesel passenger engines early in 1945. He will assume office in New York on September 1, succeeding Fred Williamson who resigned for health reasons. Diesel tests over the past days have been generally satisfactory.

Sergeant James B. Kromer heads an air force ordnance company section focused on automotive maintenance with three ready phases. Since D-Day the unit has logged over one thousand jobs and completed about 399000 miles of vehicle inspections, keeping most repairs within mobile squads while only two fourth echelon vehicles have required permanent shop work. Commanded by Captain Abraham Jarmak, Kromer is a Carey Ohio native and former employee of National Lime & Stone Co.

Beebe Pilot Promoted to First Lieutenant in England

Donald E. Beebe of 1108 Marton Road, Carey, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Beebe, promoted from second lieutenant to first lieutenant. He also receives a second oak leaf cluster to the air medal for meritorious aerial missions over enemy-occupied Europe. Beebe’s squadron was among the first heavies over the invasion coast on D-Day.

Ammunition Arrives in Bulk for Columbus Dealers

Four railroad cars of shotgun and small cartridges have reached Columbus for a wholesale concern and others, meeting four tenths of normal demand. More carloads are expected before the fall hunting season. Shells will be distributed to retailers, with sportsmen urged to avoid hoarding. The ban on selling ammunition for vermin control has been removed, allowing purchases for hunting without special forms.

Findlay Boys Charged In Twelve Car Theft Ring

Eight Findlay youths were arrested as police solved a series of twelve auto thefts totaling 7875 dollars since July 24. All cars were recovered including a Ray Dieter owned vehicle from Fostoria. The youths said owners’ negligence in leaving keys in cars aided the thefts.

Veterans to Receive Unemployment Benefits Under G I Bill

Ohio veterans become eligible for readjustment allowances starting September 4 under the new G I bill. Unemployed veterans receive 20 dollars weekly, with partial unemployment and self employed provisions. Claims are filed at Ohio's employment security centers with checks mailed to home addresses. Maximum 52 weeks of benefits, plus possible extensions for illness, while dual receipt with state benefits is not allowed.

Mr and Mrs Herman Derr of southwest of Carey received a telegram from the war department announcing their son Sgt Ralph Derr had been missing in action in Peace since August 18. Derr belonged to a tanks destroyer battalion. The first overseas letter reached his parents on June 19.
