Residents in Carey will face a state tax increase as Ohio tax law raises the education tax portion and a per thousand cubic feet charge from Columbia Gas of Ohio. The tax-cost clause may raise utilities costs by about 2.43 million dollars annually across the state.
Charles Opal Laney 61 of Kelller's Trailer Court Carey died at 4 am August 28 at England's Veterans Administration Hospital after transfer on August 27 heart attack attributed. Born January 18 1908 in Wood County son of Charles O and Adeline Schoonery Laney. Survived by brother Everett A of East Hampton NY and sisters Ruth Christ Berea Fern Yingling Carey Esther Alley Fostoria. Wyandot County Schools Carey Mohawk Upper Sandusky plan a larger display of science art and industrial arts for the county fair. Students from junior high to high school will display projects judged for cash prizes with set up Monday September 8 and judging Tuesday.
A Ford driven by Evalyn Kerry of Carey struck a parked Chevy owned by Willard Varney of Ravenswood West Virginia on Dow Street August 26 causing 30 in damage to the Pontiac and 70 to the Chevy. No citation was issued. A second collision at Brown and Vance Streets August 27 involved a International truck driven by Orion Wilgus of Carey and a Dodge driven by North Clemons of Carey.

Bowling Green State University conferred 597 degrees in the University Union's grand ballroom on Saturday August 30 at 10 30 a m. Daniel Welsh son of Mr and Mrs John Welsh 201 W North St received a Bachelor of Science degree Judith A Goeller McCutcheonville received a Bachelor for Science Degree in Education at this time.
