J. H. Rhoads, a former village mayor of Carey and long-time jewelry dealer, died in a Columbus Arcade hotel lobby. He was fifty-five, died of heart disease, and his wife and daughter live in Marion. A prior separation was attributed to alcohol use.

Landmark Big Four depot freight portion torn down
The freight portion of the Big Four depot, built around 1856 and once near the two maples, was torn down last Saturday to clear space for a new passenger station. A. S. Gibbs became agent in 1865 and planted the maples during his tenure.

Luther Spaide Honored at Wittenberg Synod Meeting
Luther Spaide returned home last Wednesday after attending the Wittenberg synod of the Lutheran church at Crestline. He was elected delegate to the general synod of the United States to be held in Richmond Indiana next summer. On Sunday October 11 he preached at the First M E Church Crestline.

Urbana man injured in trolley buggy collision
Last Saturday forenoon Albert Logsdon of Urbana rode in a buggy with his daughters Blanche and Bertha and sister in law Mrs. Bertha Glassbaugh of Knox county when a trolley struck the buggy. Mrs. Glassbaugh and Bertha were seriously injured and unconscious for a time. Logsdon and Bertha were injured but not seriously.

Block System Restored On Hocking Valley Line
The block system between here and Touledo on the Hocking Valley was reopened last week restoring service and creating twenty three new operator jobs. W L Brown, long time depot clerk, moves to Springs on the third shift. Harry Hunter of Keefer and Hunter fills the vacancy, resuming his duties last Wednesday. Hunter also retains interest in the livery barn with night hours 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
