New County Plan Tests Short School Day Experiment
Four to five counties will trial a new program this fall to boost rural attendance and aid farm work. The plan, approved by a committee led by Vernon M. Riegel, halves daily instruction to six weeks each in fall and spring, with school starting at 8 and ending by 12:30 or 1.0. Courses extend through winter months. The pilot runs in Wood, Champaign, Logan, Marion and possibly Fairfield, with potential expansion next spring if successful.

Carey High School Falls To Marion 41 To 0 In Marion
Carey High School traveled to Marion last Saturday for a football game at the fairgrounds and was defeated 41 to 0. Marion used two squads with about thirty players, starting strong and then rotating in substitutes. Carey’s lineup included Gardner Humbert Elmer Roynon Spaid Huston Bradley Newhard Rothgeb Heck and Essex. Carey will play Wharton High School at Wharton next Friday.

Rock haul mishap leaves Ralph Heck injured near Woodville
At about 3 30 PM last Wednesday Ralph Heck, a stone hauler seven miles from Woodville, crawled under a truck with engine running to fix trouble. His clothes were torn by the drive shaft, stripping his left arm and injuring his right shoulder and face. He returned home to Carey that night.

Lot Sale At Eastern Heights Crowds Crowd In Autos
Despite cold weather a fair crowd attended the lot sale at Eastern Heights last Friday. Buyers traveled between lots in autos. Auctioneer was L Linehan of Toledo with W J Newhard as clerk. Building Power House At Lime Plant Site
The National Lime and Stone Co. constructs a power house on the west side between the Northern Ohio railroad and the lime plant. The mio building will be 40,120 feet. It will generate electric current for their own use. H. J. Spieker Co. of Toledo holds the contract for the project.

Unconscious Woman Found After Fainting at Donelson’s
Richard King found Mrs Arch Donelson lying unconscious in the rear of Donelson and Son's restaurant after a bilious attack. Local medical aid restored her, and she recovered.

Fall Festival Big Success and Weather Woes
The Fall Festival and Home Coming drew crowds despite cold rain Wednesday through Friday. Carey led the effort with bands, exhibits, parades, and multiple attractions, while Saturday sunshine boosted attendance and finances. Highlights included trapeze acts by Le Croix Co, a dog act, numerous local business displays, and a large John and schol parade with notable age gaps among participants. About 50 Victory medal applications were filed at the American Legion tent.

Accident injures boy eye during farm work
Franklin Brown 12 years old, living with grandparents south of town, was riding a corn binder Saturday when a projecting iron rod broke his glasses and slit his right eyelid. The eyeball remained unharmed and he returned home to seek medical care.
