Carey Community Chest Surpasses Goal In Local Drive

Carey residents wrap up the first Community Chest drive with a total of 1463.63 raised or pledged surpassing the 1200 goal. Fifth through seventh grade teams and organizations contributed, with cash and pledges from a preliminary list plus school pennies aiding the final push. An immediate $50 advance was voted to the Carey Welfare Committee for clothing and shoes already distributed to those in need.

The first Carey Community Chest Campaign surpassed its $1200 target, highlighting not only the funds raised for welfare and character building activities but also the strong cooperative spirit shown by the community. The effort affirming that in unity there is strength was praised by the Executive Committee.

Recital Opens With Spiritual Organ Program At Local Church

A sizable crowd attended a Sunday night organ recital by Mrs. W. R. Shisler of Tiffin, formerly Carey, at the local Methodist church. Grace Woodford and Gail M. Kurtz sang solos, with Cecil Laird on piano, in a worshipful evening praising Bach Brahms and other composers.

Relatives learned Thursday evening of the unexpected death of Fred Summit in Toledo last Thursday at about 59 years old. He suffered years with diabetes. Surviving are widow Anna Boganhart Summit, five brothers William Summit near Upper Sandusky John Summit Toledo August Summit Fort Wayne Ind Charles Summit Youngstown and Gust Summit Carey and two sisters Rosa Summit Carey and Mrs Jesse McLaughlin Nevada. Born in Germany Summit lived in Wyandot county before moving to Toledo where he resided. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 PM in Toledo with Rosa Summit and Gust Summit among attendees.

Carey Firm Wins Big Road Contract on State Route 61

Ernest Dunn and Ralph Roller went to Columbus last week for a road setting and were awarded 544 miles of macadam road on State Route 61 from Sunbury to Mt. Gilead. Their bid totaled $95,687.74, against an estimate of $129,000, with completion by August 15 1934.

At a church meeting Rev A C Rainsberger proposed bringing Prof and Mrs Mills of Los Angeles and the Victory Gospel Singers to Carey Feb 12 25 as part of evangelistic work and Jubilee Year plans. The invitation was unanimously supported praising the Mills as outstanding gospel workers who draw youth to right living.
