Public School Plans Holiday Breaks and Programs

The district reports six week tests underway with grade cards due next Wednesday. Thanksgiving holiday closes school Thursday and Friday. Christmas break runs December 22 through January 1, with classes resuming January 2. A poster set introduces abstract qualities and a pageant The Hope of a Nation. Chief Roging Wolf will lecture December 12. programs funded by the school activity fund.

Students will be dismissed Wednesday evening for the Thanksgiving holiday after six weeks of tests. Everyone may go home early to be thankful and enjoy the holiday with turkey.

Mrs David Lasley represented Carey Temple No 169 at the district convention in Mt Blanchard on Tuesday. Union Thanksgiving Services at Lutheran Church Tonight

The Protestant churches of Carey join in an annual Thanksgiving service at 7:30 PM at Christ Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul R. Clouser leads the vespers, Rev. Angela Haferd Named in Who's Who Among U S Students

Miss Angela Haferd daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Haferd east of Carey will receive a B A degree from St Marys of the Springs College Columbus in June and is listed in the 1939 40 issue of Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges The publication released early next year is a national recognition program for outstanding students and is used by recruiters and colleges alike. Haferd has held campus leadership roles including president of Lansbury hall house council and associate editor of The Tower.

Hen pheasants in the area are leaving country life as hunters trouble them. A hen entered the Midway Grill doorway then sought refuge at Henry Pieracini's door before escaping to an alley. Another hen wandered into Cy's garage paint room Monday forenoon.

Fire damages hoist at lime plant. worker injured

The Carey fire department responded Tuesday forenoon to a lime plant fire that ruined the hoisting machine. A motor burned out and several cables were destroyed, with damage estimated at 1500 dollars. Cecil Presler, who operated the hoist, suffered facial and wrist burns.

Ora Kidwell an engineer at the porcelain plant underwent an emergency appendectomy Wednesday night at Findlay hospital. The surgery occurred after a sudden illness requiring medical attention.

Funeral for Mrs. Robert Travis Held in Toledo

Mr and Mrs C D Sheridan attend the funeral of Mrs. Robert Travis of Toledo. Services were at Glenwood Lutheran church at 2 00 pm officiated by Dr. Bell. Burial followed at Spring Grove cemetery near Carey. Mrs Travis born in Carey 33 years ago last June. maiden name Margaret Sutphen. Survived by husband James Sutphen and her parents Mr and Mrs G V Sutphen.

Fostoria Enthusiasts Form New Motorcycle Club

Forty three riders from Fostoria and vicinity organized the Black Aces Motorcycle Club. John Libbey is president, William Kirian vice president, Ralph Kirian treasurer, Robert Kroetz secretary, Charles Rusch road captain. Meetings are at Dier Grange hall while a clubroom is sought. A spring motorcycle meet is planned.

Attorney Rushton Niles Ends Life In Personal Crisis

Tiffin reports Rushton D. Niles a 60 year old attorney and finance company official shot himself at his home Monday. Coroner P T Perin said the body was found sitting upright on a Davenport by Mrs Niles with a revolver at his feet. He had been suffering from a nervous breakdown and is survived by a daughter Marian.

Ohio to require dealer license for Christmas tree sales

Ohio Christmas tree dealers who sell evergreens with roots intact must obtain a dealer license with a $10 fee under the revised plant pest law effective August 29.
