Edward Gibbs returned from Van Wert where he and his wife were summoned by the death of their 12 year old grandson Robert Edward Knapp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Knapp. Robert Edward died after an operation for a ruptured appendix at Van Wert hospital. A Carey Handle & Lumber Co factory sawged through a 60 inch saw while cutting an ash log from Hardin county. A horseshoe embedded in the log, likely hung on the sapling 50 or 60 years ago, caused the damage. The log is a noted ash specimen and the embedded horseshoe is on display at Zeis hardware.
