Former Resident Dies In Columbus

Russell Schmuck of Columbus died November 3 1968 in that city. He was born October 5 1890 in Carey to John and Susan Schmuck. Survived by daughter Mrs Romedel Muirhead of Columbus, one grandchild, two brothers Ralph and Willis Schmuck, and sister Mrs Mary Dame. Funeral today at 1 p.m. Evans Funeral Home. Burial in Springrove Cemetery.

Kiwanis Club Speaker Discusses Presidential Election

Carey Kiwanis Club heard Roger Jenot an American History teacher from Carey High School outline the background of the three presidential candidates. He noted 34 senators 21 governors and a new House of Representatives would be elected with a projected 75 million votes from 121 million eligible voters.

Garey Members Attend Meetings at Region Seven Event

The Region Seven fall meeting of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs was held at Kenyon College Gambier Ohio on October 26. Carey Club members included Mrs. James Simonis Mrs. Calvin Caple Mrs. Elbert Tewell Mrs. Helen Thomas Mrs. Alfred Davis Mrs. Wilford Shuman and Mrs. Cloyce Rader. Carey tied Millcreek for first in publicity second in the Year Book contest and third in the Sears contest.

Mabey Sworn In As Village Administrator At Council Meeting

Charles Mabey took the oath as Village Administrator at a Monday council meeting administered by Village law director Fred Cassel. He succeeds George Dunn who resigned two months ago. Carey Jaycees members Louis Hoopf and Tom Moffett asked for suggested projects. The Jaycees previously built benches with village lumber. Council read bids for electric substation equipment and awarded 10 silicon rectifiers at 212 dollars each and 1 circuit breaker at 2940 dollars. General Electric awarded the contract. The village will seek energy bids from Ohio Power and consider an ordinance. Council approved paying Ohio Engineering 2000 dollars for street black topping and sealing. Mayor Peiffer announced Fireman III Roger Mullholand and Electric Department hire John Shilling. Jim Smith named as relief fireman. Police reports for September and October listed numerous incidents including traffic stops, accidents, vandalism, theft, and arrests.

Junior Spaders Hold Fair Stew Dinner Event

The Junior Spaders held a Fair Stew Dinner on Friday November 1 at the Elbert Tewell home. Black cats corn gourds and pumpkins formed the centerpiece for the gathering. Gardeners worked at Crawford Park after school cleaning summer bloom beds and preparing soil for planting crocus tulips and daffodils planted Saturday afternoon.

Firemen Called To Shed Fire Near County Road 16

Carey Fire Department responded at 8 30 a m October 31 to extinguish a shed fire on County Road 16. The blaze had already been put out by National Lime and Stone employees. The same shed had burned a few days earlier.

October entries show Tim Arend taking roll call and collecting dues for Den 1 with hikes, posters, mask making, and games. Mrs Elbert Tewell of Carey Garden Club spoke Saturday morning November 2 on WBCO Radio in Nevada on the program Saturday morning in Nevada. The topic Garden Therapy defined as a service to mankind to heal the mind through teaching gardening and encouraging practical use of knowledge as a hobby. Wyandot County Garden Clubs were praised for helping Angeline School of Opportunity children plant bulbs a few weeks ago and look forward to the next club visit.

Parking Accident Investigated on W Findlay Street

At 1 47 pm on November 1 Bertha Crumrine of Adrian backed from a space in front of the Lutheran Church on W Findlay Street and struck a Parked 65 Dodge owned by Donald Robison Route 2. The crash caused $90 damage to the Drumline 59 Chevy and $110 to Robison's auto.

Ralph B. Baker 64 Wharton Carpenter Dies of Heart Attack

Ralph B. Baker 64 of Wharton died on arrival at Wyandot Memorial Hospital after a heart attack on Wednesday October 23 1968. He was co owner of Baker Lumber Co and a lifelong resident born June 6 1904. He married Gail Schoenberger in 1944 and survived by two sons and several siblings. Services were held November 3 1968 with burial in Wharton Cemetery.

Carey Ends 1968 Season in 6-6 Tie with Mohawk Warriors

Carey High School Blue Devils closed the 1968 season with a 6-6 home tie against Mohawk, finishing 6-1-2 behind a halftime stalemate. Bob Schaffer, Ralph Wentling, John Landall, and Steve Gibson starred as Carey pressed for a late score despite windy conditions and a hard-fought defensive battle.
