The Board of Education urges approval of a three mill operating levy at next Tuesday's election to fund a full school year. It notes rising per pupil costs have fallen in recent years, and asserts the levy will not raise real estate taxes. The measure lasts one year with voter renewal possible next election.
The Big Four Boosters club hosted 150 county rail workers at Catholic Hall on Friday evening. A dinner served to 75 attendees at 7 30 followed talks on traffic regulation by speakers including J M Hood A C Y superintendent L A Champ N C train master Erle Reed and Rep Grover R Traxler. Music by the Carey trio complemented the program.
A letter from Harry Weatherholt to Wyandot County voters explains his inability to meet residents due to sheriff duties. He pledges ongoing presence in office, commitment to protection, and asks for continued support if elected.
The interdenominational revival at St. John's church five miles west of Carey is meeting with fine success. Rev. K. H. Bird of Wilmore Kentucky delivers excellent sermons to packed houses. Local musicians provide special music. Services are held every evening at 730 and Sunday afternoon. The public is invited.
Saturday about 7 30 a mad cow attacked Mrs. Allen Stoll as she milked in the stable and then turned on her 12-year-old son Gerald who was nearby. Mrs. Stoll suffered a leg wound and Gerald sustained bruises in the same incident.
The Carey Community Chest reports on achievements in 1934 and lays out plans for 1935. It lists beneficiary groups including the Carey Welfare Board, Red Cross, Anti Tuberculosis Society, Boy and Girl Scouts, Undernourished Child Committee, and Carey Schools Band, plus details on funds, administration, and the annual campaign in November.
Carey Ohio adopts a constitution and by laws for its Community Chest. It establishes name location objects fund creation and funding through voluntary subscriptions gifts and bequests with disbursement per by laws. Members include organizations and individuals.
The pastor Rev Paul R Clouser returns from the United Lutheran convention and will oversee all services this Sunday. Vespers resume at 7 30 p m. The Western Conference Synod of Ohio meets at First Lutheran Church Marysville next Wednesday and Thursday. Junior high Week Day School begins Wednesday November 14 with grades four through eight. Registration dates to be announced.
Mrs. A. R. Pritchard of Toledo arrived Saturday and was joined by Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Croker who left Tuesday for Los Angeles to make their home. Mrs. Croker will stay with her sister Mrs. Serepta Daniels for a time. The Thelesmany Carey friends wish the Croker couple a pleasant visit back home.
Organizers postponed the big Halloween Frolic due to bad weather. The parade starts tonight at eight o clock sharp instead of eight thirty, with all other festivities expected to proceed as planned.
Early Saturday the unconscious youth Ira Caldwell, a CCC member stationed near Akron, was found on the pavement before Dr W G Brayton’s residence on W Findlay by D C Henry. Dr R J Semons treated minor bruises and possible concussion. length of unconsciousness unclear. He was taken by Bristol and Kear’s ambulance to his North Baltimore home.
Special anniversary and homecoming services will be held Sunday at Beech Grove United Brethren church. Sunday school at 9:30, worship service and sermon by Rev. Cora Tester, basket dinner at 12 16. Rev. J W Shock of Toledo, former pastor at dedication 21 years ago, will give the address. Special music is arranged for all services.
Judge Paul Capell of Findlay pro bate judge of Hancock county and president-elect of the Findlay Kiwanis club spoke to the Carey Kiwanis at Pilgrim House. He reported on the Kiwanis national convention in Columbus where he served as a Findlay delegate.
The white side will entertain the rest of the lodge Friday evening and all members are urged to attend. On Tuesday afternoon Mrs. W. H. Sloman hosted the red side at her Wyandot avenue home. A regular business session followed.
Rapid police work led to arrests of Fairy Coats Betty Jane Jennings and William Vaughn in Sandusky after a bus driver Morehart was robbed on Arch street. Coats was identified as the gunwoman and Jennings as the woman who searched him. Vaughn was the suspected driver of the getaway car. The trio faces armed robbery charges.
The American Legion Auxiliary must telegraph the annual roll call results for members and dues before Sunday, Nov. 11. The Carey auxiliary has a history of strong drives and urges members to maintain the standard. Dues can be paid to President Mrs. C C Simonis at Simonis' Grocery, Secretary Mrs. A F Byers, or Treasurer Mrs. C B Myers.
Wyandot County Auditor Be Hudson requests voter support for the upcoming election, thanking past supporters and noting his duties prevent personal calls. The message emphasizes appreciation and asks for continued backing at next Tuesday’s election.
The Queen Esther class and the Forum class of the Methodist Sunday school will serve a chicken supper at the church on Wednesday evening November 7. The Wesleyan Guild class will hold a bazaar in connection with the supper.
Mrs A B Gcoppler thanks friends who sent flowers and cards and those who helped during her recent illness.
Edward O. Smith, pianist and piano and harmony teacher, will give lessons each Saturday starting November 3, 1934. Enrollments accepted at Earl Moser’s residence, 145 West North Street, Carey, Ohio.
The Pythian Sisters announce a benefit card party this Thursday at Castle Hall at 8:00 p m. Bridge and pinochle will be played to raise funds for their activities.
Starting Saturday November 8 the Crawford township trustees will meet at 2 00 p m instead of Saturday evenings.
