First Solemn Mass for Father Warren Welsh at Our Lady of Consolation

Father Warren Welsh OFM Conv a newly ordained priest will celebrate his first solemn Mass at 10 30 a m Sunday at Our Lady of Consolation Church A reception follows 3 6 p m in the school hall The ceremony features the Carey Seminary Friars Choir and a large procession with the Image of Our Lady and includes various attendants and honors from local families and church groups.

Families Moving In Carey Area This Week

Mr and Mrs Floyd Mack and daughters Donna and Cindy plan to move today to the James G Campbell farm house north of Carey. The Campbell family moved yesterday to the former Burson farm northwest of Carey on the Shuman Road. The Macks had rented the Mathern apartment on S Vance Street. Mr and Mrs Claud Biles and two children moved Monday from Indiana to the Leroy Winner property on W North Street that they have rented. Mr Biles is a feed salesman for Hales Hunter in Nevada.

Cub Pack Ends Season With Barbecue Supper

Cub Scout Pack 51 Den 3 wrapped up its season with a baseball outing and barbecue hosted by den mothers Mrs Norbert Lang and Mrs Charles Kessler at the Lang home on Clay Street. Attendees included Tommy Davidson Mike Mullholand Tommy Pahl Mike Yingling Keith Yingling Lloyd Logsdon Paul Kessler Mike Odone and Mike Lang with guests Charles Jr and Dennis Kessler. This was the final gathering until fall.

Sheriff invites boys to join mounted posse in Wyandot County

Sheriff V. Dean McAllister urged boys ages 12 to 16 with a horse or pony to join the junior sheriff’s mounted posse in Wyandot County. They hope to participate in the Northwestern Ohio Volunteer Firemen’s parade in Upper Sandusky on June 16. Contact Sheriff McAllister at AX 4-2362 as soon as possible.

Farewell honors Sarey teachers from Colonel Crawford staff

Mrs. W. R. Terry and Mrs. F. D. Jackson were honored guests at a farewell dinner at Jack's Restaurant last Wednesday planned by Colonel Crawford School teaching associates. Attendees included Mrs. Richard Spayd, Mrs. James Hendricks, and others. Gifts acknowledged for Mrs. Terry, who moves to Lineville Alabama, and Mrs. Jackson, relocating to Bucyrus.

The 42nd and last Ohio Synod meeting at Zion Lutheran Canton elected Rev. Jerry H. Miller as director of Christian education, noted a $108.86 per member 1961 average gift, and planned a June Dowry Gift fund of about two million dollars for startup operating costs of the new church.

Carey Merchant Retires From Burson Clothing Co

Veteran Ralph A. Cap Kurtz retires after 43 years with Burson Clothing, selling his interest to Paul A. Burson on May 12. He began in Carey’s main street as a clerk in 1906 and later earned a pharmacist license in 1913. Cap will remain available to help irregularly while enjoying retirement fishing.

Wind Strips Corn Plantings Near Carey in Strong Wind

About 30 to 35 acres of corn on the Sam Stone farm six miles northwest of Carey were replanted after last Thursday's wind and dust storm. Gusts reached 40 mph driving muck off young plants and soil drift filled fence rows and roads. The Newcomer farm muckland also reports destroyed first plantings. Some residents lit lamps during daylight as a dust cloud persisted. Showers followed after temperatures had spiked into the upper nineties.

The Wyandot Museum moves to Johnson and 7th Streets in Upper Sandusky with a June 10 dedication at 2 p.m. William E. Hershman is master of ceremonies and Fred Milligan, formerly of Upper Sandusky, will be the speaker. Remodeling largely done. items remain to be moved from the courthouse.

Gifts Presented to Carey Elementary Schools

The Carey Elementary Schools received gifts from local organizations including Art Linkletters encyclopedia sets from Foodland Market Carey supplementary readers from Carey JayCeeJays and a checkwriter from Porcelain Products Co. Eugene Costello flew from Lineville Alabama to Cleveland Friday evening and was met by his wife and daughters Kathy and Nancy. They spent the night with her parents west of Carey and left by car Saturday to settle in Lineville where Mr Costello will work for Swan Rubber Company a division of Amerace Corporation.
