Local Red Cross response spurs Carey fraternal and service groups to sponsor a benefit card party at Catholic hall on June 8:30 p.m. Proceeds fund Emergency Refugee Relief quota support. Tickets 25 cents, bring own cards and tables. A planning meeting runs Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the municipal building council room.
Paul C. Goff is converting the former Mrs Gertrude Kurtz home on East Findlay into a modern funeral home. A 25 by 14 foot prep room will be added and a 200 seat chapel created on the west side. The full building will have 13 rooms and be redecorated upstairs. Opening is planned by July 1 with latest equipment including an oxygen tent offered free to anyone.
Miss Helen Sanner received a merit certificate for her poster on the humane treatment of dumb animals in a contest sponsored by the Latham Foundation at Stanford University California. The entry drew 5000 applicants. Sanner studies commercial art with Federated Schools Inc of Minneapolis.
City authorities have posted no parking on N Vance Street due to sewer trench work and increased Memorial Day traffic as Carey opens the street to expected highway flow.
Gilbert S Ellis thanks supporters in Carey for their votes in the recent primary. He expresses regret for disappointing friends, notes he ran a clean campaign, and says he will carry on despite defeat.

In Columbus District Director J L Kelly told Carey and Upper Sandusky officials that no WPA projects will be available for Carey or Upper Sandusky before Spring 1941. Street repair may occur next Spring but sidewalks only with street work. transfer of WPA labor is impossible due to summer curtailment. The Nevada area project on state route 2381 will take four months, and freezing weather could halt sidewalks and curbing. Officials were advised to keep listing project needs for possible future changes.

Lynn Black, superintendent of the state highway patrol, says fewer traffic accidents would occur if courts revoke licenses of drinking drivers. He urges more suspensions for carelessness and recklessness and proposes 120 additional patrolmen for state traffic duty.
Odd Fellows and war veterans meet at the bank corner at 10 a m Thursday to form a march to Wharton cemetery for the Memorial Day services. Rev Gaylord Wilkins will give the address as the Upper Sandusky high school band and American Legion drum corps perform music.

The Earl Green Post 344 American Legion observes Memorial Day Thursday morning in Carey. Members meet at 9:30 at the Legion hall, proceed to St Marys cemetery for brief rites, then at 10:00 a.m. in Spring Grove cemetery the program features Carey schools band, a memorial prayer by Father Robert Bayer, floral tributes, a Memorial address by District Commander Dr. C S Kuntz of Fremont, benediction by Rev B L Lee, taps, and the Star Spangled Banner performed by the Carey schools band.
Chas A. Wentz of Upper Sandusky was listed as an approved judge by the Percheron Horse Association of America committee on classification and judges. Seventeen horsemen nationwide, including four from Ohio, were chosen for their experience and alignment with the ideal Percheron type. Ohio selections also include George A. Beginning this Sunday June 2 Christ Lutheran Church will hold an 8 oclock service. Sunday school starts at 915 with the regular 1030 church service conducted as usual. The extra service aims to provide another opportunity for members to attend worship during the summer months.

Last Sunday afternoon Sylvester Jesko of S Patterson street played baseball with the Carey team at Bradner when he was struck in the head by a pitched ball causing a basal skull fracture. He is employed at the porcelain plant and will be confined to bed for three to four weeks.
