Lieut. Colonel Ralph D. Cole lauds the Salvation Army for its self sacrifice at the front. He cites soldiers’ praise for food doughnuts and cigarettes provided in critical moments and notes fifty years of disciplined service and readiness to aid under fire.
Local Odd Fellows group announces a memorial service set for Sunday June 8 citywide. Details to follow next week as plans mature and community members are urged to attend.
Russell Brown, 14, died after an accidental gun discharge at the Ogg home on West Main Street. William Ogg, 18, touched the trigger while showing a .22 revolver, injuring Brown in the temple. Brown died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday after being transported by ambulance. funeral services were held Tuesday at the Lutheran church with Cadet pallbearers.

William Schlachter reports his son Corporal Alfred Schlachter serving in France sent a greeting from Coblenz. He mentions meeting Sylvester Tiel and sees comrades Ernest Wank and Clarence Huss in the theater of war.
A formal letter dated November 21 1864 from President Abraham Lincoln to Boston widow Mrs Bixby. Lincoln expresses consolation for the loss of her five sons in the Civil War, acknowledging grief and praising their sacrifice for freedom. The message closes with prayers for comfort and pride in their shared devotion to the republic.

Ditch surveys approved in Salem and Tynrochtownships with hearings set. Numerous verdicts and docket entries. deaths, marriages, and minor incidents outlined. new non-alcoholic Zip drink announced ahead of dry laws. a shooting incident near Nevada. civil suit over alleged alienation of affection seeks damages.
Cadets will drill in the field between the picnic grounds and the road as part of the afternoon program. A line of march from stage to drill grounds and back will be observed with Band Cadets Choral Club Soldiers and Sailors of All Wars and Citizens in the procession. Governor Cox and Lieut Col Ralph Cole will speak in the afternoon. A full program will be released next week.
The Chamber of Commerce will hold an important meeting at the library tonight May 29 at 7 p.m. Regiy Mougier is urged to attend as important business will be discussed.
Among the recently returned soldiers are Pat Krupp, Russell Gottfried, and Ralph McKinnon with the engineers. All of them look well and happy as they come home from overseas service.
The Tee side of the contest of the U. Ladies Aid presents a chicken supper at Morse Hall from 4:30 to 6:30. Tickets priced to be announced. Proceeds aid the Ladies' Aid activities and Decoration Day plans.
The parade will start at the library and move to the park with a marching order set by the arrangements committee chaired by D. C. Henry and including C. I. Kessler W. H. Phelps P. J. Miller E. M. Reinhart W. J. Newhard and F. N. Schira City officials ministers schools and war veterans groups all to march as citizens. The marshal is D. E. celger.
Last Friday evening the 1919 high school class graduated at the park pavilion. The Choral Society performed as students and officials entered. Samuel W. Grathwell delivered a commencement address urging education and a new schoolhouse. Diplomas were awarded and the crowd dismissed.
The annual memorial services of the G A R were held at the Lutheran church with 14 veterans leading a High School Cadets detachment under Supt C M Beitler. Rev E L Spaid preached on Civil Spanish American and World War service with a patriotic sermon. The choir sang hymns and Mrs John Semler of New Lexington sang a solo. The veterans thanked the church pastor choir Beitler and the cadets for the fine service.
