1931 Commencement Exercises at Alliance High School

The 1931 class graduation program was held Thursday evening in the Alliance high school auditorium. The event featured the high school orchestra, soloists, a valedictorian and salutatorian, and diplomas conferred by E S Burson. Marguerite Buckingham was honored with third place and Margaret Lanner was valedictorian with a 94.27 average, while Helen Gottfried earned salutatorian honors.

Don Donelson Semi-Professionals Meet Colored Giants

The Don Donelson Semi-Professionals schedule a Sunday May 31 game at 2:30 pm against Sandusky Colored Giants, touted as the top colored team in the state, at the local rubber plant field. Donelson and Orians headline, with Donelson at first, Rex Donelson at short, Ferner pitching, Orians catching. indoor ball between Upper Sandusky and Carey opens at 1:00 pm. Giant spring mushroom found near Stevens thicket

I L Culler found a large spring mushroom about four miles south of town in the Stevens thicket. The sponge top bent over and grew downward. the specimen weighed 13 ounces and would be 15 inches high if straightened.

Trustees Schedule Friday Meeting Due to Memorial Day

The Crawford township trustees will meet Friday evening instead of Saturday due to Memorial Day observance. The move shifts the regular trustees session to Friday to accommodate holiday schedules.

Line of march for Memorial Day Saturday May 30 lists Civil War and Spanish American War veterans, Legion members, scouts, bands, and school children. Parade forms at the high school at 9 00 a.m. proceeds to Spring Grove cemetery for memorial services at 10 00 led by Father Paul Vollrath, then to St Marys cemetery. Memorial Service at Christ Lutheran Church

A large congregation attended a memorial service Sunday at Christ Lutheran church with Mrs. Walter Myers presiding on the organ and singing by Mrs. Myers and Miss Elsie Howard. Rev Paul R Clouser preached on Memorial Stones. A flag reading was given by several men and about 40 American Legion members attended as a body.

The family of Ida Deidrick and relatives express gratitude to neighbors and friends for sympathy and help during their bereavement. They thank pastors for consoling words, those who provided music, arranged transportation, and sent flowers.

Death of Winfield Stahl Near Carey Farm

Winfield Stahl aged farmer four miles northwest of town died Monday afternoon at his home after a period of illness from heart disease. Born May 11 1854 he lived near Carey his entire life. He married Ida St Heckman March 11 1886 who preceded him in death seven years. Survived by eight children Clara Starr Willis Albert Bart Leroy Aura Frey Anna Wonder Elsie Thomas and Mertie Presler. sixteen grandchildren and three sisters. Funeral services set for this afternoon at 2:00 at the home and 2:30 at Memorial Evangelical Church with Rev O D Myers. interment Spring Grove cemetery. Tong Home Robbed Near Town On State Route 103

Charles Tong's farm home four and a half miles west of town on State Route 103 was robbed of $200 in cash Wednesday night while he was in Carey. Tong, who lives alone, found the kitchen in disarray when he returned about 10:30. A skeleton key was suspected to have opened the door. Sheriff Weatherholtz and Deputy Jonas investigated Thursday but found no clues.

Elderly woman suffers broken leg after fall

Mrs S. S. Smith, 75, of the town’s outskirts, fractured the bone in her right leg Monday evening while pulling dead branches from an elder bush. She fell between hip and knee, neighbors say. She is resting fairly well.

Men’s Aid Committee Plans Dinners for Public

The Men’s Aid committee of the church held its first meeting to organize help for the Aid society. They will assist with the business end of the big dinners served to the public on the first and third Wednesdays each month. The next dinner is scheduled for June 3.
