Largest LASS Graduates STH at Garey High School

The Garey high school held its largest commencement in history with 49 graduates in the auditorium filled to capacity. The program opened with the high school orchestra, featured a class address by John Henry Newman, and included valedictorian Orvetta Wentling and salutatorian Genevieve Jacoby among 24 named graduates.

Car overturns near Greer woods injures none

A Model A Ford rolled over Saturday around 6 00 near Greer woods three miles northeast of town. Driver Wayne Presler and his uncle Darwin Presler of Adrian were uninjured though the car was badly damaged.

Rev Turrell Wins Second in Sermon Essay Contest

Reverend Roger J. Turrell pastor of the Milford Methodist church earned second prize in a national sermon essay contest sponsored by the American Eugenics Society. The contest offered five prizes and was open to ministers, priests, and rabbis. Turrell plans to read his sermon this Sunday on Religion and Eugenics Has the Church Any Responsibility for Improving the Human Stock.

Well Drilled Deeper on Elmer Moser Farm Gas and Oil Increase

Well No. 1 on the Elmer Moser farm in Ridge township section 12 was deepened after a 2 000 000 foot gas well drilled by R W Kirk and others. It now yields 15 barrels of oil daily and higher gas flow after being shot with 100 quarts of nitroglycerin. A second well is planned soon.

Memorial Day events outline a parade assembling at the Colonel Crawford or East end school building at 8 15. Participants include colors, marching squad, drum corps, veterans from World War I and Spanish War, auxiliary, ministers, and Boy Scouts. The procession travels to Grove and St Marys cemeteries for addresses, prayers, and songs. An afternoon program at Col William Crawford monument features music, a Senator Roche address, flag raising, and the Star Spangled Banner.

Dr F B Herbert a former pastor will occupy the Christ Lutheran church pulpit this Sunday in Carey. He will lead services in Rev Paul R Clouser's absence who is visiting Harrisburg with his ill health father and attending Gettysburg College centennial events. Death of Mrs Rebecca Laubach noted in Bloomville

Word came Tuesday of the death of Mrs Rebecca Laubach in Bloomville at age 87. She was a great aunt of Mrs Forest Baker and Harley Wolfe. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM. Mr and Mrs Wolfe plan to attend.

Carey Kiwanis hears plan for Boy Scouts district

Carey Kiwanis Club heard Arthur Brooks of the Harding Area Council outline a proposed Carey district to develop the scout program. The plan calls for a district committee, local officers, a training course, and a Board of Review with representation on the area executive board. A public meeting for interested groups is scheduled for Monday June 6 at 8 oclock.

Carey Fire Department Presents The Fire Brigade

The Carey fire department will present a four act musical comedy drama The Fire Brigade at the high school auditorium this Thursday evening under Capt. Harry DeLong of New York City. Alumni Reception At Carey High School This Friday

The Carey high school alumni plan a reception on Friday evening May 27 at the school auditorium for the current graduating class replacing the earlier announced banquet. A program featuring dancing cards and entertainment is planned. A 50 cent per person charge will be billed to alumni members and their guests. dues are waived for this year.

Conlebsted First Mass for Rev. Collet in Carey

Rev. Martin Collet celebrated his first mass at Our Lady of Consolation Church with a solemn ceremony. Deacon Nicholas Martyn and Fr. Edwin Borntraeger assisted as others from his Franciscan order joined the sanctuary. A procession, lilies, poems, and a welcome reception followed, with future studies planned at Franciscan institutions and Catholic University in Washington.

Boy Escapes Injury in Farmyard Sow Attack

Three year old Andy Collet, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Collet, narrowly escaped serious harm after four brood sows attacked him in a hog lot on the J. H. Carothers farm. Mrs. Collet chased off a sow dragging his leg, and doctors stitched a scalp wound and a cut near the eye.
