The Hi Y social last week featured a Sweetheart Dance with members and their girlfriends in attendance. During intermission officers were elected: President George Schwemley, Vice President Tom Atkins, Secretary David Yingling, Treasurer Paul England, Sergeant at Arms Ronnie Van Buren. Refreshments followed the dance.

Local broker John Risner sold a two room house on N Patterson Street owned by Porcelain Products Inc to Mr and Mrs James Cameron of south of Carey. The Camersons will move the house to four acres in Crawford recently purchased from Mr and Mrs Clyde Wentling and the foundation is nearly completed. Porcelain Products will use the old lot for additional parking.
Mrs Julia Tanner buys from Mr and Mrs Donovan Lanning the property at 411 E Findlay Street. The Lannings buy the S W McChesney home at 604 Clay Street where they reside. Both sales conducted by Arthur N Stevens, realtor. Mrs Tanner’s plans are indefinite.
The Marion Shanty Town all colored softball team will face the Merchants at Memorial Park under lights at 8 oclock Sunday evening. The team is known for tough play and trick moves on the diamond, and fans should not miss the game.
Season tickets are on sale for Memorial park swimming pool. Family tickets cost 14.40 dollars, adult tickets 6.30 dollars, and junior tickets 4.20 dollars, all including federal tax. Tickets may be bought at Mapes Rexall Drug Harry's Drug and Burson Clothing Co. 18 20

Elizabeth Romig, valedictorian of Carey high school, earned the Reader's Digest award for students showing leadership and strong academic work. Principal Cloyce Wentling announced the honor, which includes an engraving and honorary subscription. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Romig of west of Carey.
A Sunday afternoon rededication at Crawford Methodists Church drew about 300 attendees, including out-of-town visitors. The program featured hymns and solos, devotions, historical remarks, and addresses by Rev. Worthman and Rev. Cryer, with closing prayers followed by social time.

Mr and Mrs Elmer Strahm hold the Carey high school record for most graduates in one family Norma the ninth graduated last Thursday. Earlier siblings include Helen 1934 Dorothy 1936 Robert 1938 LeLand 1941 Arline 1942 Gertrude 1944 Lawrence 1947 and Harold 1949.
Mr and Mrs Robert Heck are advancing construction on a new frame house on St Marys avenue. The ranch style home will have six rooms and a bath a basement a side porch a garage and breezeway. They expect to move in this fall.
Harold F Strahm 5S A on Wednesday phoned his parents Mr and Mrs Elmer Strahm from aboard the U S S Mississippi in Boston Harbor. He will return home next week upon completing a year of Navy service.
Joyce Myers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forest Myers of southwest of Carey, takes top prize in the 7th to 9th grade division of the Farmers' Institute poster contest. She also earned honorable mention in the state contest last year, per Ohio State University agricultural extension service.

A large number of residents ask why there is an unusual amount of dust in the air in recent days. Officials have not yet provided a definite explanation.
Sunday night the Karg home near Crawford on Route 23 was found ransacked after two doors stood open and a bolted kitchen door was forced. A chest held only receipts and keepsakes. silverware was untouched. Sheriff investigated after police received a report and noted a car license seen near the Crawford bridge.
The Carey Times notes Memorial services for Legionnaires at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday May 30 at Wharton with a meeting at the club rooms. At 12:30 p.m. Legionnaires join the Memorial Day parade and services at Spring Grove and St Marys cemeteries. Commander K Peterson urges turnout and notes new helmet liners and leggings for uniforms.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary will attend memorial day services in a body. They are requested to meet at the Legion hall at 12 30 PM and will make the trip in cars.

The J. T club will meet with Mrs Clarence Goshe this Thursday afternoon.
The Farm Bureau will remain closed for the entire day on Tuesday in observance of Memorial Day, with normal operations resuming the following business day.
Memorial Day marks the opening of a new Memorial Park pool at 2 p m with picnic facilities a supervised playground and a refreshment stand. Carey residents are invited to bring families for an afternoon and evening at the park with a normal opening to be held later.
The Carey Conservation League held its first 1950 social meeting Friday May 19 at the local Moose hall. Officers re elected include President Harry Myers secretary treasurer John Welsh and vice president W R Hudson. Board members are Jack Naegaert and Gerald Kauffman. An Ohio fish management talk was given by John Pelton. State representatives Thomas Warper Blakeman and H Andrews attended. The group thanks committees staff and The Carey Times for support. Miss Joyce Snyder daughter of Mr and Mrs George W Snyder 660 Findlay Street Carey honored for participation in the Wittenberg college marching band. She has been a majorette for the band for several years and is majoring in English and a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority on campus.
Jack Mullholland son of Mr and Mrs H J Mullholland 227 S Patterson street will receive a bachelor of science in pharmacy at Ohio Northern University Ada. Baccalaureate services are at 1030 a m and graduation exercises at 3 p m next Sunday.
Knights of Pythias announce a chicken dinner with games cards and dancing at the K of P hall for members and families. Dinner served at 6 30 pm. Tickets only and now on sale by the committee. Additional tickets from John Cole or Dale Weaver.
The Carey Farmers Community club will meet Monday evening in the K of C hall. The program committee includes C. J. Walters William Pontius and Allan Baker and the refreshment committee features Wesley Wonder W. W. Gottfried and Ralph Heck.
Saturday May 27 marks Poppy Day as the American Legion Auxiliary sponsors urge support. Members ask the public to wear and donate to the cause supporting veterans.
