Joseph Reister a longtime Salem township resident died at his home near St. Josephs church on May 16 after a five month illness from stomach cancer. Born November 25 1836 in Baden Germany he was 70 years five months and 21 days old. Survived by wife Elizabeth Shumaker and ten children, funeral held May 20 at St Josephs Catholic Church with a large procession and many relatives attending.
