Describes a near library area house, a nearly new cream hoe (likely home) and tiling details with rent figures and price per acre.
The Savings Bank of Upper Sandusky opens in the Hotel Gottfried building with plans for a future permanent home. The town reports hydrophobia concerns as poultry show unusual symptoms in hens. Robert Layton returns from Pasteur treatment in Chicago. A drill for oil is planned at Mononcue with hopes of oil or usable gas for local industries. Boiler explosion at Sycamore injures engineer C Ludwig and damages the plant. The death of Sarah Stern at 19 follows tuberculosis. Sterner, and other farms with good oil shows noted on several wells.
North side residents including Mrs Ranggeler Jerry Garn and Mrs Shuman prepare brick walks along North street. Edwin Brown C B Adelsperger lay cement paths while J M Steen advances flagstone work on Vance street and Brown avenue. RK H Griffith Builds flagstone fronting his lot and East Brown avenue sees many workers laying sidewalks with vitrified brick on Brown avenue Perkins addition and Dow street. About 2000 feet of new walks planned with brick from Logan.
Joseph Reister a longtime Salem township resident died at his home near St. Josephs church on May 16 after a five month illness from stomach cancer. Born November 25 1836 in Baden Germany he was 70 years five months and 21 days old. Survived by wife Elizabeth Shumaker and ten children, funeral held May 20 at St Josephs Catholic Church with a large procession and many relatives attending.
Xere Cornelia Nye sold her house and lot on Clay street to Our Lady of Consolation church for 1200 dollars. The parcel adjoins the site for the new church edifice and will provide space for construction. Nye also bought a Main street lot from W. S. Lemott for 1800 dollars, adjoining Lemott’s residence and Mrs. Ann Strung’s property, with possession to begin next month.
B Chesebrough reports from Sycamore that a boiler explosion hurled the device hundreds of feet and struck the ground six times. He did not witness the blast but says the force suggests a dry boiler caused the eruption. investigation underway.
King Alfonso of Spain will devote time to remembering his heir’s name. The crown christening introduced a lengthy given name for the infant, described as cumbersome and ceremonial. The monarch faces a chore akin to memorizing a college roster of titles.
