Carey Woman Dies After Route 103 Crash In Ohio

Mrs. Cora Bachman 59 of Carey Ohio died after a two car intersection crash on route 103 near Wyandot county road 12. Eight others were injured including Carla Bachman, Wilson Wagers and his children, Vina and Warney Bowling, and Rebecca Jean Gibson. Funeral arrangements and obituary to follow in The Carey Times.

Teresa Mathern Wing Poetry Contest Wins Again

Teresa Mathern Wing’s student Miss Teresa Mathern won first place in the Senior division of the biennial Ohio Poetry Contest for her poem Silver Silence. It will be published in the 1948 Ohio Anthology. Coral Ann Althouse won Junior division with Only, following prior years when Peggy Laird and Eugenia Schmitz won top honors.

Senior Farewell Assembly Set for May 18 at 2 20

Seniors return to school on Tuesday May 18 for a farewell assembly at 2 20 in the afternoon. Scholastic awards will be distributed marking the seniors last group appearance before the student body. Public attendance is invited.

Carey High School hosted Career Day on May 11 with speakers from Carey Findlay and Upper Sandusky addressing students. Each pupil joined two career discussions. private interviews were arranged when only one student signed up for a vocation.

Pythian Sisters Hold Carey Temple Inspection

Carey Myers Grocery baseball team wins second game of the season at Marseilles beating the Bulldogs 7 to 4 behind 4 hit pitching from Mervin Snyder. Dick Lab Donald Yingling and Lewie Buckingham each tally two hits. Arden Doppler pitched the last inning. Carey returns home Sunday to face Marion at 2 pm on Swanfield.

Crazed Man Visits Carey After Bus Stop Name

A Detroit man, Jerry Eyerman 36, rode the Columbus to Detroit Greyhound and acted strangely in Carey Ohio. He fled in rain, sought entry at a duplex, and was taken into custody by local police. Eyerman was identified by a sister and returned to Detroit. He had been missing since January 15.

Hosafros Buy 100 Acre Farm Near Carey

Mr and Mrs Karl Hosafros purchased the 100 acre farm just south of Carey formerly owned by Mr and Mrs Charlie Boyce. The Hosa fros plan to reside in a duplex on EF South Street while the Boyces move to a new home on Clay Street around June 1.

Autos Wrecked in Wind Storm at Two Springfield Homes

Two daughters of Allan A. McKune of Carey lost their cars in separate wind storms. On April 27 a tree fell on a car in Springfield while a borrowed vehicle owner’s wife was locked out. On May 2 winds toppled farm buildings near Urbana, wrecking the Cletus Detrick auto.

Eagles District Meeting and Initiation in Carey

Softball Field Progress With Bleachers Footers Dug

Builders dug footers for bleachers at the softball field this week while light poles arrived but lights pending. A meeting is set for Friday night May 14 at the Legion hall. Donations of time and funds are still welcome as volunteers work at the field each evening.

Four Hartle Sisters Return from Texas Visit After 33 Years

Miss Letta Hartle of Osborn and sisters Mrs. L J Hensel of Kenton and Mrs. Harry Sanford of Forest reunite with eldest sister Mrs C H Petry in San Antonio. They toured John Hensel in Columbia and the Pontius family in Pass Christian, marking their first gathering in 33 years. Another sister teaching in Yokohama recently, and the trio stopped in Indianapolis for Cadle Tabernacle services on their way home.

Funeral for Lefflers, gas caused basement deaths

Mr and Mrs Edward Leffler of Tiffin and their son-in-law and daughter Myron Clingman and wife were to travel to California. The couple were found dead April 28 in a gas filled basement from a faulty water heater. Relatives from Carey Akron Upper Sandusky attended the double funeral May 1.

Greyhound links Detroit Charleston service set for May

Through Greyhound Lines routes between Detroit and Charleston West Virginia will start May 13 with Great Lakes and Atlantic Greyhound Lines cooperation. Regular trips via Columbus and Portsmouth total eight daily round trips aiding passengers to avoid coach changes. John Kreps sold the New Center Recreation on Findlay street to Charles and Frank Heck. The new owners took possession Monday and Kreps returned to Fostoria. The property was originally owned by Kreps and Luther Link, who recently sold his stake back to Kreps.
