Novena Begins at Carey Shrine for Our Lady of Consolation

A multi week novena at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation opens Thursday and runs through May 41 with weekday Masses at 7 and 8 45 a m and 3 30 p m prayers and 8 p m Benediction. On May 22 Masses are at 7 and 8 45 a m prayers at 3 30 p m and Benediction at 7 30 p m. The octave extends May 23 to 30 with daily 7 and 8 45 a m Masses prayers at 3 30 p m and 8 p m Benediction except May 29. Sundays in May feature a 2 30 p m procession to St Marys Park and Stations of the Cross with blessing. Sunday Masses are 6 15 8 00 and 10 30 a m.

Wyandot County Farm Bureau Buys Property

The Wyandot County Farm Bureau purchased the Findlay property of W W H Smith, formerly owned by Carey Mill & Elevator Co. and leased since 1939, plus the Sinclair Refining Co. leasehold including a former filling station. Gottfried, manager, calls for wartime unity and plans to modernize equipment for better service postwar.

Three McKinnon Brothers Serving in U S Armed Forces

Mr and Mrs Ira McKinnon of Carey report their three sons in the armed forces. Richard McKinnon is in the Navy and has been missing in action for a year next Monday. Cpl Howard McKinnon is stationed near South America. Pvt Robert McKinnon left Carey April 29 and serves at an Army camp in Miami Beach Florida.

Carey High To Graduate Fifty Six In 1948 Class

Fifty six members of the 1948 Carey High School senior class will graduate at the school auditorium Thursday evening May 27 at 8 30. Baccalaureate services follow Sunday evening May 28. Class officers include Donald Long president Judson Frederick vice president and Martha Gottfried secretary treasurer. The motto is Conquering and Still To Conquer with colors red white and blue and carnations as flowers. Logsdon Brothers Join Marine Aviation Path in San Diego

Four Logsdon brothers serving in the armed forces are referenced. Pvt Harold L. Logsdon and Pvt Herman J. Logsdon, twins, arrived at the San Diego Marine Corps base last Sunday night. Their brothers Cpl Edmund Logsdon in San Francisco and Avie James Logsdon in Phoenix are also in service. The twins took aptitude tests and chose aviation after a nine week boot period, likely entering a Marine aviation school.

Carey native to receive commission in Army Air Corps

Avie John F. Byers son of Mr and Mrs Arthur F Byers will be commissioned a second lieutenant and become a pilot in the U S Army Air Corps on Thursday May 20 He entered the Air Corps in August 1942 and trained at aviation schools in California and Arizona He is stationed at Marfa Texas and has trained in both light and heavy bombers in recent months

Methodists Burn Last Note At Carey Church Sunday

At 10 30 Sunday morning the First Methodist Church in Carey will burn the last note of indebtedness during the worship service. The Easter offering funded the action. Poppy Shop Puts Veterans To Work For May Poppy Day

Six veterans work in groups at Sandusky's Poppy Shop forming red poppies. Each table assigned roles from centers to stems, with one person stamping In Memoriam 1943 and the American Legion tags. About 390 veterans at the home earn one cent per poppy, aiding purchases and family visits, as poppies go to Carey for Poppy Day on May 29 to remind America of war’s cost.

Aviation Mechanics School Grad for Cpl Allan G Smith Jr

Cpl Allan G Smith Jr son of Mr and Mrs Allan G Smith of Carew has graduated from an intensive aviation mechanics course at the Vega factory school Burbank California. The training is part of the Army Air Forces technical program to prepare specialist technicians who maintain bombers and fighters in combat condition. He becomes eligible to serve as bomber crew chief and earn sergeant rating.
