Carey high school G A A members join over 500 girls from 43 schools at Bowling Green State University for volleyball basketball swimming and tennis events. Seniors listed include Norma Strahm Sally Wright Jeanne Allen Persis Newhard Joyce Jenkins Janet Kramer and Betty Sizemiere. Juniors Marianne LaRoche Judy Hill Barbara Hunter Ruth Niederkohr Marilyn Schmuck accompany Mrs Grace Baker as sponsor.
Cecil Laird and Mrs Martha Spensier attended the elementary principals meeting Tuesday May 2 in Findlay. They invited Supt G A Hartman to join the afternoon session. The meeting featured a tour of the new McKinley elementary school under construction in Findlay.
The Village of Carey schedules Clean-up Fix-up Paint-up Week May 15 through 19. Curbside rubbish will be collected by village crews. ashes and garbage are not accepted. Two collections will occur through alleys or rear areas, except businesses may have rear collections. Harry D. Hale, Village Manager.
A Social Security Administration representative from the Marion field office will be at the Carey municipal building on Tuesday May 16 from 3 00 to 4 00 pm. The event targets residents over 66 who worked in covered jobs to discuss duties rights and law.
James Dyer, son of Mr and Mrs Mark Dyer of Fostoria, is the new manager of the local Kroger store succeeding Lhoyd Kolhoff who resigned. Dyer was transferred from the Findlay Kroger store and resides with his parents.
The Wesleyan Guild will hold a rummage sale Friday May 26 until 6 at the Methodist church basement. People with items to be picked up should call Mrs Alfred Gardner at phone 1563.

On April 28 three Carey senior girls Marcella Phillips Ruth Croll and Shirley Hughes and adviser Miss Marian Shook traveled to Columbus for the Ohio State University state F H A meeting. The local chapter earned its first State Homemaker degree for outstanding service to school club and community. The chapter also received an award of merit for meeting the association standards. Delegates included Dortha Wilson Betty Wiederkohr Leah Jean Orians and two club mothers Mrs. Leo Beagle and Mrs. Wilfred Droll.
A Friday meeting led to a plan for an eight team softball league with opening May 22. Games run Mondays Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays across three rounds with a trophy for the winner. Merchant team plans Wednesday home games and a May 12 Friday night tilt under lights.
American Legion Auxiliary recruits volunteers from other groups and its own members to distribute memorial poppies on Saturday May 27. Girl Scouts join to help honor the war dead and collect donations for living veterans.
Capt. D B Moyer stationed at Angentia Newfoundland phoned his parents Dr and Mrs F Moyer at Westover Field Springfield Mass. His family plans to return to the United States in July after two years in Newfoundland.

A freight wreck near Bellefontaine injures Glen McCarley and two other crew members as the 21st car derails and the train blocks Route 274. Firefighters extinguished a stove fire in the six car work train. All three injured are hospitalized with burns and possible fractures. condition reported as improving.
Thomas Allen Gibbins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gibbins, is named by the Bureau of Naval Personnel as one of 450 alternate candidates for the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. The group was chosen from 25,000 high school seniors or graduates who applied last fall after a December aptitude test.
The Carey Conservation League announces its first 1950 meeting for Friday evening May 19 at 8:00 in the Moose hall Carey. Public invitation extended with free entertainment and refreshments for attendees. Secretary IC L.

Forty three seniors of Carey High School will graduate at the commencement exercises to be held Thursday evening May 28 in the high school auditorium. Valedictorian is Elizabeth Romig with a 3.94 average. salutatorian is Jeanne Allen with 3.75. The first 16 on the honor roll include Shirley Hughes Kay Hall Persis Newhard Judy Dible Ruth Droll Thomas Gibbins Marcella Phillips and Marlene Risner. Baccalaureate is at 8 pm next Sunday in the high school auditorium with Rev H Myron Shimer of First Methodist Church delivering the sermon.
E F Woodward of Bellevue Northern Ohio Telephone Co addressed Carey Kiwanis on Modern Telephone Service. He presented automatic service data and Ohio independent companies statistics. The club planned shelter house work session and an interclub gathering with Lions and Jaycees in late May.
Hraie Godfrey from the Ohio State University athletics department will present moving pictures of this year’s Rose Bowl game won by Ohio State. The Carey Lions Club and sponsors will host the event after a 6:15 p.m. supper at Gibbins’ restaurant with the Carey high school squad as guests. Reservations via Harry Myers, Harry Mapes, or Dr. H. R. Wenner.
Clifford Zellon Ritter son of Mr and Mrs Clifford Ritter of 540 Grove Street returned home two weeks ago after three years with the United States air forces in Japan. He will go to Wright Field Dayton on June 24 to receive his discharge.
Elizabeth Ann Romig is valedictorian and D Jeanne Allen salutatorian of Carey High School Class of 1950. Both are National Honor Society members and active in school activities. each is part of the annual staff.
An 8-pound daughter Mary Ruth born to Chester and Mrs Ogg east of Adrian at 7 am May 2. Also listed are newborns Robert Edward Myers in Findlay hospital, William Joseph Boder Carey, Debra Jean Baker Findlay hospital, Dennis L Grubel McCutchenville, and a son for Charley Heck of Spencerville. Families include Mullholand, Kitzler, Lawhead, Tong, Ogg, Baker, and Heck.

Carey Blue Devils earned their first win beating Pandora 43 to 2 in nine innings. Nash pitched six innings before Longanecker finished the game with four innings of relief. Gerdeman took the loss for Pandora as Carey capitalized on timely hits and defensive miscues.

Two films Cheaper by the Dozen and Women of Tomorrow will screen May 21 to 24 at the New Carey theatre. The benefit supports each Carey Girl Scout troop and honors all Girl Scouts of America.
