The Snider family plans its 11th annual reunion at the Isaac Snider home in Mt. Blanchard on Saturday June 10 1922. Isaac Snider is president and Rolland B Jacobs is secretary. This marks the first reunion card printed this season by the Times office.
New linoleum with attractive colors laid in H. B Kurtz Sons dry goods store, improving the floor. Many town businesses have redecorated this spring, and Carey’s department shows a fine appearance.
A notice urges recipients to check the label for correct credit on mailings. Report any errors promptly to avoid misunderstandings and ensure proper attribution.
Joe Dumit of Upper Sandusky and Arch Donelson of Carey competed for the Stand privilege at Crawford school house Tuesday. Dumit, who has run the stand for several years, was the successful bidder for the Pioneer Picnic to be held Thursday June 8.
In 1922 Carey High School outlines events for graduation week. The class play is set for Thursday evening June 1 at the high school auditorium, the baccalaureate sermon will be delivered Sunday evening May 28, and the commencement exercises occur Friday evening June 2 at 2700 o clock in the auditorium.
The 1922 Chautauqua calendar runs July 25 through 29 with daily afternoon and evening sessions plus morning activities for children. Headliners include Alton Packard, the Festival Mixed Quartet, Grosjean Marimba Xylophone Co, and lecturers Geoffrey F. Morgan and Cotton Noe.
The Carey and Crawford township Sunday schools schedule a convention at the Methodist church next Sunday afternoon and evening May 14. The program includes scripture lessons prayers by Rev. Amore and Rev. Lewis P, addresses by Rev. W F Martin and Rev. Leslie J French, music by the United Evangelical Orchestra and Methodist Male Quartet, solos by Helen Griffith and Mrs W D Goble, and reports from the nominating committee with prayers by multiple church leaders.
Donald Edward Clinger, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Clinger of West Street, died at 1 00 am Wednesday from tuberculosis caused growth on the neck. Born Carey May 25 1921 the boy had been ill about two months and four days seriously. Survived by parents one brother and one sister. Funeral Friday at 2 pm from the home with Rev. I H Amore officiating. Interment in Spring Grove cemetery.
Mrs Emma G Orth Deputy Grand Matron attended the Eastern Star inspection in Ada Tuesday night. Fifty members from Wm Myers Chapter McCutchenville joined guests from Findlay and Sycamore chapters as three candidates were initiated. A lunch followed the work with vocal solos by Carl Mitchell Mrs W D Goble and a vocal duet by Mildred Ranger and Margaret Sutphen.
W H Fisher general passenger agent of the Hocking Valley ordered all passenger trains stopped at Crawford on Thursday June 8 for the Pioneer Picnic all trains except No 33 which passes north of Crawford shortly after 4 PM.
12 year old Ernest Kitzler of South Patterson street was injured last Friday noon near his home when his right foot was caught in the wheel of a West End Central delivery wagon. He suffered a leg injury near the hip and was helped by bystanders until paramedics arrived.
County Doings reports commencement exercises at Sycamore high school held Thursday evening May 18 and notes marriages for Clifford Teneran and Isabel Eckert and Charles Hart with Esther Davis. Levi Green dies aged 27, Rev. C C Wessel is new English Lutheran pastor, Newark Construction Co. wins road contracts, and local efforts to curb wildcat investments are announced. A radio shop is planned by Clair Holland and Edward Hitchcock but delayed. Also covered are citizenship troubles of Domenik Paranuzo and local club training in home economics.
The Rev. Lewis P. Speaker was installed as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in a crowded service led by Rev. Paul W. Keller of Mansfield. Keller preached on John 21 6 urging pastor and congregation to work together to win souls, as organist Helen Griffith performed Fear Ye Not O Israel.
Ralph R. Williams brings Rita and Dunn to town for a free outdoor act next Friday and Saturday. Rita is the nation’s only female high wire walker with Dunn performing dangerous feats without a safety net. First show Friday at 4 PM with evening performances at 7 PM and Saturday at 2:30 PM and 9 PM on Main Street three stories high if possible.
The Spring Pilgrimage to the shrine in Carey runs from next Saturday through Sunday the 21st. Evening candle processions begin at 7:30 on May 14 17 and 20. Afternoon processions with the Image of Our Lady start at 2:30 on May 18 and 21. On Thursday at 1:30 p m the solemn blessing of the sick takes place in the upper church. The prayers and invocations are chanted by the clergy seeking divine mercies.
A Portland Maine lawyer about to wed ducked to the street for a moment and found a lantern used to warn of a hole. He borrowed it, returning to perform a quick ceremony as a benedict with no ill omen perceived by him or the bride.
The Kiwanis Club held its regular Tuesday evening luncheon with twenty eight men present. Acting secretary W D Goble presided in the absence of the president. Dr G W Cliffe failed to attend due to a Dayton engagement. Two delegates plan to attend the International Convention in June. more may join. Mothers Day will be observed next Tuesday evening with guest ladies and suitable speakers promised. Rev L P Speaker won the prize for the evening as a first‑time attendee.
Carey opened the season at home against Bucyrus, falling 11 to 5 before a large crowd. Carey pitchers Bland and Stiner delivered strong showing, but fielding and support were lacking. Next Sunday, Carey faces Shelby in the Central Ohio league at home as lineup changes aim to win.
Mothers Day will be observed during the Sunday school hour next Sunday and in the preaching service. Special music and features will be provided. All mothers are urged to attend and wear a flower in memory of mother. Sunday school convention follows in the church. Dr. Leslie J. French of Northminster Presbyterian Toledo speaks on religious education. All township churches participate.
Edward Campbell Jr. and C. I. Kessler were among those initiated by the Elks at Upper Sandusky last Thursday evening. Other Carey residents at the meeting included H. B. Keller R. D. Perkins W. R. Hudson H. L. Tracey A. T. McGown C. G. Spencer and Dr GC D. Higgins.
Rev. W. M. Keller announced at the third quarterly conference held at Crawford church that during the current conference year he has welcomed 101 new members across the Mec-Cutchenville Crawford Methodist churches.
The Crawford Sunday school Live Wires class led by Mrs Paul C Whaley presented a hymn board to the church. J W Wright and Brayton Davis donated a hat and coat rack.
New awnings and a cement sidewalk extension to the curb greatly improve the appearance of Mathern's bakery at the corner of Vance and Clay streets.
An 80-pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kirkwood of Muncie Street early Monday morning.
