The Carey Schools band concert, set for Friday May 6, is rescheduled to Tuesday May 10 at 8 PM. Bandmasters praised the festival performance, and the concert next week is free with public invitation.
In Friday action Loudonville defeated Carey 5 to 4 in 14 innings as Carter scored the winning run after Derr sacrificed to second and Nouse singled. Strahm fanned 24 and Shrimplin 16. Postgame festivities included a Carey potluck, dance, and movies.
In honor of National Music Week the Carey Philharmonic Society plans an 8:15 p.m. program at the Methodist church. Director Mrs. George Denman leads a varied set featuring Bach Gounod Morley Reichardt and Chopin with soloists Miss Marjorie Kramer Mrs. Paul Powell and Mrs. C. G. Laird. A silver offering will help cover expenses and flowers are provided by Carey Greenhouses.
Edward G Turner former Ohio attorney general and candidate for supreme court judge spoke to the Kiwanis at Pilgrim House about his Russia trip. He noted destitution in Russia yet said Americans should value living in the United States. Carey high school quartet Norman Huffman Henry Brown Harold Presler Darrel Kidwell performed. Wm J Hunter Wyandot county prosecutor attended as a guest.
Ralph Heck drew a 50 percent ticket and received a 14.60 check the largest prize so far. The jackpot grows to 194.00 next week with a 10 o clock drawing. Merchandise prizes go to Harvey Cole Doris Putnam and Russell Ward for $500 in trade at local businesses.
Tuesday services held at Calvary Evangelical church Marion for Mr and Mrs Homer T Myers murdered Saturday night by a farm hand who owed them money. Myers, a breeder of blooded stock, had stock dealings with the Walter family who attended and had previously visited his home. burial followed in Marion cemetery.
The C I class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will hold its monthly business and social meeting at the home of Mrs. John Faulkner in Bucyrus Friday evening May 6. All who desire to go are asked to meet at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Roy B. Leedy.
Notice to Moose members states Tuesday evening May 10 at 7 30 p m the Brother Moose and their wives are invited to attend the social hosted by the Women of the Moose.
Parochial pupils achieved perfect scores in recent spelling tests over six weeks with names including Mabel McKinnon Jean Weinandy Donna Jane Courtad Peggy Schlachter Mary Louise Kessler Stanley Pieranunzio Jane Pieranunzio Pauline Pieranunzio Rita Neff Rita McLaughlin and in a 100 word test Donne Jane Courtad Rita Agnes McLaughlin Natalis Blaine Welly. Other 65 word list top scorers were Barbara Mullholand Joan Collet Alene Hoepf Genevieve Fox Louise Niederkohr. A party was planned for this afternoon and Robert Bland shared a story on Monday.
A 39 year old man using the name Lawrence Wanlind of Mr Vernon was arrested for issuing fraudulent checks. He cashed 5.95 at Schira’s restaurant and 210 purchase at A P store with签 signed W R Weaver. He was bound over to the grand jury on a 500 bond after pleading guilty.

The Carey Community Chest met Friday night April 29 at the Carey public library with strong turnout and reports from beneficiary organizations. Rev Cyprian Terwoord noted the 25th anniversary of the Chest movement while awards were read honoring the first president Rev Paul R Clouser and first secretary treasurer Mrs Elizabeth Bland. New executive board members John S Fox S W McChesney and Mrs C B Myers were elected, with a May 12 organization meeting planned. retiring members were H L Wenner Mrs H L Pahl and William Pontius.
Mrs C J Krupp of Toledo spent last Saturday visiting relatives here on her way from Columbus. Her son William J Krupp heads a Nevada museum near Boulder Dam where excavations uncovered numerous Indian relics and skeletons. The finds suggest a Pueblo or Navaho town once stood there and work continues to establish a local museum for the artifacts.
The patronal feast and pilgrimage to Our Lady of Consolation Shrine run May 14 to 22 with devotions and services daily. Special days are May 15, May 19, and May 22 featuring morning afternoon and night services and solemn processions.
Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge holds a regular meeting on Tuesday evening May 10. The Rebekah degree will be conferred on several candidates. A potluck supper will follow. Lodge opens promptly at 8 o'clock.
Dr. Dunham of Toledo district superintendent will preach at the Adrian church on Sunday May 8 at 2 30 oclock. The public is invited.
The Victory class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Allan Baker south of town. Mrs. Karl Hosafros assists, and Mrs. Linus Myers will lead the devotionals.
The Pythian Sisters arrange an inspection this Thursday evening and urge all Sisters and Brothers to attend the session.
Rev. Marlon E. Tinsler returns from a ten day study tour of American problems in New York City and Washington DC with educators authors and ministers led by Sherwood Eddy. He will speak Sunday night May 8 at 8 about trip highlights impressions and notable figures met including Mrs F D Roosevelt Chief Justice Hughes and Thomas Dewey. He also plans talks at the high school chapel Kiwanis club and Wyandot County Ministerial Association and will begin a weekly Carey Times series on the seminar starting next Thursday.
A Sunday editorial page poem by Mrs. Nell Twining of N Patterson Street is printed in the Toledo Times. The verse uses white lilies as a religious symbol with lines about purity, spring, and the living God.
Notice announces Carey Clean-up Week from May 23 to May 28 1938. Residents must place rubbish including tin cans at the curb by Monday May 23 for collection on Tuesday morning May 24. Children are asked not to interfere with curbside rubbish. Jacob Nitraver Clerk.
Tuesday marked the last day of school at Bear Trap school five miles northwest of Carey in Seneca county. Miss Anna Gase of Fostoria led the year and an noon dinner followed by an afternoon program. Uncertainty looms whether Bear Trap will operate next year due to consolidation talks.
April 30 announcement states W L Arnholt, who succeeded D H Patton as superintendent after Patton left to become assistant superintendent in Toledo, has been rehired by the board of education for a four year term.
Adrian beat Springville 9 to 5 at Springville last Sunday afternoon in a friendly game. Springville will return the meet at Adrian on Sunday afternoon May 15.
Residents are invited to a Lakeland Inn gathering on Friday May 6 at 8 30 pm to discuss forming a softball league. The event seeks community participants and organizers to establish teams schedules and rules.

The Mansfield Hi Speed team travels to Lake Land field on route 103 south of Carey to face the Carey Eagles Sunday afternoon. Mansfield features E Herrick and Ganaway with past affiliations to Ohio State and Brooklyn Dodgers, while Scott and Beer form the Battery. The Eagles opened with a loss to Findlay Browns 10 to 6 as Parsell allowed seven late runs after seven good innings and Hayden Fouts hit a grand slam.
Walt Disney Animated feature in Technicolor opens at the Strand for five days starting Sunday. It is the first full length Disney film leaving the two reeler format, blending Grimms fairy tale drama with forest creatures and seven dwarfs to captivate both adults and children.
Beginning next Thursday Rev Marion E Tinsler will publish weekly in The Carey Times a series about his experiences in the American Seminar. The essays will cover In and Out of the Slums The Background and the Backbone of Action Personalities of Prominent Persons In Harlem and in Heaven and What of It. They will expand on lecture topics without duplicating his other remarks.
Notice to dog owners explains Carey ordinance prohibiting dogs running at large in streets or on others properties. Dogs caught will be picked up by dog catcher. Mayor P A Hendricks signs the notice urging owners to keep dogs at home.
The Mars Martha class of the Lutheran Sunday school will hold a tireen supper in the church parlors on Friday evening at 6 30. Members their husbands and friends will attend and each member is asked to bring her own service and a covered dish.
The Young Ladies Sodality of Our Lady of Consolation church will entertain their mothers and fathers with a breakfast in the parish hall after the 8 o'clock mass next Sunday morning.
Recent communication with Dr R J Semons discloses that he will definitely return to Carey on or before May 16. The report notes firm plans and confirms the scheduled homeward arrival.
