Benefit Show For American Legion

The Strand theater will present The Lost Patrol on Wednesday May 16 as a benefit for the American Legion. Three showings are scheduled one in the afternoon and two in the evening. The local post switches from its annual minstrel to this World War themed film, already highly recommended from other areas. Regular Strand prices of 10c and 15c apply.

Vocal Festival at Crestline A Success

The Northwestern District held its first vocal music festival at Crestline with eight schools participating. Prof. R. B. Smith organized it with the Ohio Music Education Association. Capital University’s Ellis Snyder directed the critic’s remarks and led groups in a demonstration. Carey Girls' Glee Club, directed by Mary Finley, performed two numbers to credit and applause.

James Henderson Phillips died at his home southwest of town on Saturday April 28 after a year of illness. He leaves wife Ida and nine children, plus 38 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral at Methodist Episcopal church with Rev A C Rainsberger officiating, interment at Spring Grove cemetery. pallbearers were his eight sons. He was 74 years old and a devout member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the local church.
