The Strand theater will present The Lost Patrol on Wednesday May 16 as a benefit for the American Legion. Three showings are scheduled one in the afternoon and two in the evening. The local post switches from its annual minstrel to this World War themed film, already highly recommended from other areas. Regular Strand prices of 10c and 15c apply.
The Northwestern District held its first vocal music festival at Crestline with eight schools participating. Prof. R. B. Smith organized it with the Ohio Music Education Association. Capital University’s Ellis Snyder directed the critic’s remarks and led groups in a demonstration. Carey Girls' Glee Club, directed by Mary Finley, performed two numbers to credit and applause.
Next Sunday May 6 during the 7 30 Solemn High Mass several children from Our Lady of Consolation parish will receive their first Holy Communion. All boys wishing to play ball should report at the American Legion club rooms Thursday evening May 3 at 7 00. Twenty four boys have signed up. More turnout means keener competition and a better team. Maybe another Babe Ruth lies in Carey.
Dr. and Mrs. A W Balsley spent Tuesday evening in Marion where Dr Balsley attended a Marion Academy of Medicine meeting at the Marion hospital. Dr W N Taylor of Ohio State University spoke on abdominal symptoms due to kidney lesions. Mrs Balsley visited Leo Balsley and family.
Findlay high school coach Stuart Holcomb spoke at the Kiwanis regular meeting on Monday evening about college athletics and his coaching experiences. Guests included local coaches D. J. Kingsmore and Harry Bowman, with President T. B. Dromgold reading several Kiwanis International communications.

The public library will be open every weekday from 8 30 a m until 8 00 pm. On Saturday it stays open until 9 00 pm.
James Henderson Phillips died at his home southwest of town on Saturday April 28 after a year of illness. He leaves wife Ida and nine children, plus 38 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral at Methodist Episcopal church with Rev A C Rainsberger officiating, interment at Spring Grove cemetery. pallbearers were his eight sons. He was 74 years old and a devout member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the local church.

The Carey Schools Band joined Crestline Findlay Unity Shelby Sycamore and Upper Sandusky for a Band Festival in Upper Sandusky on April 28. Under Prof Eugene Weigel of Ohio State University bands were judged after a combined march to the courthouse lawn and a concert. Miss Keller spoke on music in schools.
Wesleyan Guild class of the Methodist Sunday school will hold a pot luck supper and social evening next Monday at teacher Mrs. S. R. Bame's home. Committee includes Mrs. Thome as chairman Mrs. Wesley Wonder Mrs. Emory Ulrich Mrs. J. F. Dible and Miss Dolores Wisnet.
