Mass Oral Polio Vaccination Planned for Wyandot County

Carey Jaycees sponsor a county wide Sabin Type I oral polio vaccination drive. On April 9 at Carey and Upper Sandusky High Schools from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. residents 6 weeks to 98 years old may receive three drops in water for 25 cents per dose after registration.

Seminary Speaker Addresses Kiwanians on Communism

Rev. Claude Mussel OFM Conv spoke at a Carey Kiwanis and Farmers Club dinner at the Homestead. He argued Communism should be taught to combat it and summarized its roots in materialism and atheism, urging understanding before action and noting Christianity remains alive in Russia despite government efforts. President Burson announced Upper Sandusky Club will host Carey Club at noon tomorrow at the Evergreens Restaurant.

Type III Vaccine Ordered Tuesday In Wyandot County

David Myers of the Carey Jaycees was notified Tuesday that Type III Sabin oral polio vaccine was licensed and he ordered 12,000 units. The vaccine aims to be available promptly for Wyandot County mass vaccination participants.

Missionary to Show Colored Slides of British Honduras

Miss Ruth M. Dech, a Nazarene missionary to British Honduras on furlough in the United States, will speak at Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene near Carey tomorrow at 7 30 p m. She will describe the country and its people and show colored slides of Nazarene mission work there. The Arlington Kansas native, a 1944 Pasadena College graduate, has studied at USC and La Verne College. The Rev M C Larimore invites the public to attend.

Swan Rubber Co Elections Slated

Union elections set for April 11 at Swan Rubber Co plants in Bucyrus and Carey. In Bucyrus 850 workers will vote on reestablishing Local 267 United Rubber Workers after decertification in 1960. Carey employees, 250, will choose between Local 414 URW, United Mine Workers, or no union.

Ohio Fuel Gas Co To Replace Mains In Village

The Ohio Fuel Gas Co plans to award a contract this week to lay new gas mains in Findlay Street between West Street and the C. and C. Railroad and along Patterson from Findlay Street south to about 280 feet beyond Grove Street. The old lines dating from 1904 will be abandoned. The new mains will run in the boulevard on Findlay Street then in the street near the business district, crossing east of Lanning Motor Sales and returning to the north boulevard. On Patterson the line will run beneath the sidewalk along the east side. Residents will get new sidewalks after completion. Leakage in the existing mains prompted the upgrade, Village Manager George Dunn told the village council on March 19.

A revival is in progress at the Church of Christ in Christian Union four miles northwest of Carey on Route 15. Rev Dorothy Meadows of Lucasville is the evangelist. Wyandot Commissioners Host District Meeting

Wyandot county commissioners hosted the Central Northwestern District meeting in the Elks ballroom Upper Sandusky on March 19. About 100 attendees heard Dr Everett Rogers of Ohio State University discuss population growth and suburban expansion reshaping rural areas and business. He envisioned a Toledo Cincinnati megacity and a lake-region cross into Pennsylvania. County Commissioner Harold Shuman serves as secretary treasurer of the 22 county district.

Youths report life-sized dummy found near Township Road 89

Last Wednesday a local area youth delivered a life-size dummy he had cut from a tree overhanging Township Road 89 northwest of Carey. The effigy frightened several people before it was turned over to the Carey police department per sheriff's department orders.

Rev. George E. Cressman to Begin Ministry at Christ Church

The Rev. George Edward Cressman, former pastor in Savannah, Ga., will start ministry at Christ Church this Sunday after relocating from Savannah. Born 1918 in Long Valley New Jersey he holds degrees from Muhlenberg College and Lutheran Theological Seminary Philadelphia. He has served five pastorates and is moving with his wife Margaret and three children to Savannah area before final settlement in Carey.

Firemen Answer Calls From Carey Fire Department

Carey volunteers responded at 9 57 p m Monday to a National Lime and Stone quarry machine shop where a truck burned extensively. The cause was undetermined. They also answered a Wednesday grass fire at the State Route 15 Sunnyside Road intersection northwest of Carey with no damage reported.

Carey Interchange Favored by Local Development Group

The Carey Community Development Corporation backs a new 4-lane bypass south of town with an interchange to aid industrial growth. Residents hinted broad support for Route 23 despite traffic concerns and urged state officials to convene talks with Carey leaders for a acceptable solution. Blood Drive Sees 77 Pints Donated In Cleveland Visit

The Cleveland Red Cross Bloodmobile at Carey collected 77 pints last Thursday. 73 pints were replacements for prior patients. 26 walked in and 7 were rejected. New one gallon donors included LaurAnn Knox, Mrs. George Niederkohr and Donald C. Clark. A long list of donors followed, led by Charles Heck and others, with Charles Mathern completing his second gallon.
