Power outages and storm damage hit Findlay area

A sleet and ice storm left Hancock county utilities crippled as lines failed between Berwick and Tiffin and near Forest. Carey faced electric shortages until repairs by 6:20 pm Tuesday restoring good quality power. Transportation, telephone service, and tree damage spanned several counties with lingering outages and warnings of further harm.

Marriage at Ebenezer Evangelical Church in Tiffin Ohio

Miss Mabel R. Bame daughter of Mrs Vertie Bame Carey and Morton R Lees son of Mrs Maggie Lee Wa attended the ceremony at Ebenezer Evangelical Church in Tiffin Tuesday evening. The bride wore Barrita blue satin with matching accessories and has taught in Vanlue junior high. The couple will live on a farm four miles west of Carey.

Thomas G Laws died Wednesday forenoon after a six week illness due to mitral regurgitation. Funeral at Crawford M E church Saturday at 2 30 p m. Burial in Spring Grove cemetery. Born Oct 4 1851 in Licking county Ohio aged 82 5 24. Survived by wife Clara Powell daughter Alva foster son Harry Myers seven foster grandchildren two brothers Samuel and David Laws sister Mrs Catherine Ross. Resided on Crawford farm 42 years and was active in church life.

Carey Farmers Community Club Meets Greeted by New Members

The Carey Farmers Community club met Monday evening with talks by Ira Matteson and Clarence Kail of Upper Sandusky. Four new members were admitted. Plans for Ladies Night at Moose Hall on Monday April 9 were announced with a pot luck supper. Election of officers follows at the April 4 meeting.

Card Party Event Planned by C. K. of O on April Night

The C. K. of O will hold a card party and dance at the entertainment hall on Tuesday evening. Music will be provided by Cortman travelers. A second fete is planned for April with rice and beverages to be furnished.

Local funeral services held for Ruth Baldutt and Miss Davis

Funeral services were held Sunday for Ruth Baldutt of Huntington and Miss Davis of nearby community. Both were laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery after services at the local funeral home with interment following in the same cemetery.

Legion post hits 100 percent quota in Wyandot drive

Green post of the American Legion surpassed its goal by reaching 79 members by Wednesday, with 73 needed for the drive. The 1917 1918 push style effort completed the target in less than a week, prompting a call for all legionnaires and ex-service men to attend the April 3 meeting led by Post Commander Earl Briggs.

Mail service changes on A C Y railway announced

The Cincinnati division chief clerk of the railway mail service told Postmaster H G Benjamin that starting April 1 mail service on the A C Y railway would end in this territory. Mt Blanchard will be served by a Carey star route with two daily round trips via Jenera Vanlue Mt Blanchard and Arlington, improving facilities for local patrons.

Barbara Ann Chaney dies at six months in McCutchenville

Barbara Ann Chaney aged six months died Tuesday evening at 8 at her parents home ten miles south of McCutchenville after a ten day illness with influenza. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 pm at the McCutchenville Methodist church with Rev. J. H. Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove cemetery. She was born Sept. 10, 1938, to Francis and Edith Chaney and is survived by both parents, paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Francis Chaney Sr, and maternal grandfather Lawrence Stout.

Carey Boys Win Gold Medals In Band Competition

Glen Shuman and Edward Messmer of Carey earned gold medals as members of a 135 piece Northwestern Ohio school band at Bowling Green. Directed by G. C. Barnum of Northwest University Chicago the pair played baritone and sousaphone and performed pieces including The Purple Carnival, The Silver Cord, The Glow Worm, An American Rhapsody, Springtime, March, and Stars and Stripes Forever.

Charles Courtad dies after three weeks illness at 84

Charles Courtad aged 84 died at 8 30 Thursday morning after a three week illness from heart trouble at his home north of town. Funeral held at Our Lady of Consolation church with Requiem High Mass. Interment in St Marys cemetery. Survived by nine children, 16 grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters. He lived near Carey for 55 years and was a farmer.
