Carey High School stage hosts a two night performance of The Miracle Worker on April 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. The senior class dramatizes Helen Keller’s life with Paula Powell as Kate Keller and Josephine Troiano as Helen, Annie Sullivan portrayed by Carol Putnam, and a large supporting cast. The production features period costumes, expanded sets, and scenes from the Perkins Institution, directed by Mrs. Ernest B. Leathers.

Cub Scout Pack 51 Receives 1963 Charter At Our Lady Church
Cub Scout Pack 51 of Our Lady of Consolation Church was granted its 1963 charter on Sunday March 17 by Ed Schrier Bucy rus, a Chief Tarhe District representative. William Zierolf accepted for Pack 51 as charter institutional representative. Ed Davidson opened the meeting, with Rev LeRoy Paul OFM Conv leading prayers. Den 5 led by Mrs Floyd Gaster handled flag ceremony. Cubmaster Don Hill announced Lion and Bear badges for several scouts and Wolf Cubs presented mother pins by den mothers Mrs Gaster Mrs Howard Snowberger and Mrs Henry Lortz. Gold and silver arrows awarded to multiple scouts along with denner stripe. Den 2, led by Mrs Lortz and Mrs Ralph Orians, staged a Around the U.S.A themed skit. A potluck supper followed and a bake sale by the pack that day was a sell-out.

Carey High School held a science fair during the open house night with judges from National Lime & Stone Co. and Porcelain Products Co. Junior George Cressman, Jr. earned a superior rating for his nicotine on skin of a white mollusc project and qualified for District Science Day. Others received excellent ratings for crystal growing, solar energy, soft drinks effects, human body systems, and more.

Maryanne Roof daughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard Roof southeast of Carey earned the State Homemaker Degree at the Ohio FHA convention in Columbus only 200 of 17000 members achieved the honor. Carey chapter received the Merit Award with Josephine Troiano accepting. Janice Logsdon sang with the 144 voice State Chorus. Voting delegates were Carol Muir Bonnie Arend and Shirley Niederkohr. Mrs Glen Phillips and Carol Smith accompanied the group which left Carey March 15 for the event.

Fifty years ago Carey faced a modest flood after Easter Sunday rain on March 23 1913. The Big Four sewer backed up sending water into Vance Street stores and homes while 26 people were rescued from second stories. The worst loss was W H Snyder’s ice house about 3000 dollars. other costs included 400 dollars in rubber boats and heavy furniture losses for John McGuire.
