Hearings on County Highways Set for April Dates

The state highway department will hold hearings at the Upper Sandusky courthouse on April 16 17 to argue for or against adding county roads to the state system. The Margeilles Kirby Carey road plan grants Carey a direct route to U S 30 N. On April 16 Carey McCutchenville road would connect to state road 57 and Tiffin. A Findlay hearing on April 21 concerns the Wharton Vanlue Northern road improving access to Findlay.

Edgar B Kurtz a Carey area leader dies at 83

Edgar Bard Kurtz a longtime Carey resident dies aged 83. Born January 30 1870 on a farm west of Carey he married Fionia Kurtz in 1893 and survived by daughter Ruth and grandchildren Janet and Nancy Giles. He served as president of Peoples Bank and Carey Mill Elevator and held many community roles including Mason Eastern Star Kiwanis club and church council. Funeral at Christ Lutheran church with Rev Clouser officiating and a Spring Grove burial.

Scholarship Test Set For Upper Sandusky Seniors

The general scholarship test for high school seniors occurs Saturday morning March 28 1936 at 830 in the assembly hall of Upper Sandusky High School. Each county school may send a third of its senior class. Carey seniors chosen for scholarship are Mabel Altwater Helena Bakies Christine Hoff Eileen Kirkwood Rosemary Kramer Pauline Newcomer Ada Mitchell and Jean Wenner.

High School Orchestra Hosts Tureen Dinner and Charades

Monday evening the Adrian area high school orchestra met at Wallace Ruehle’s home east of Adrian for a tureen dinner and games. Miss Woodford impressed as a vivid narrator while the audience supplied color. guests included Mr Huffman Miss Smith and Miss Davis along with the director and orchestra members.

Ping Pong Tournament Opens Tuesday for Latin II and Clothing Class

Insulators Ordered to Pittsburgh Delayed by Flood Roads

Western Electric rushed 29 cartons of insulators from Porcelain Products to Pittsburgh after the flood hindered transport. Roadways were flooded and state police could not guarantee truck service, prompting R B Hamler to seek approval from L A Champ to stop the ON1 fast freight. The delay added about 30 minutes, with final delivery at 4:00 AM and freight cost totaling eight dollars.

Kiwanis Club Meets. New Member Joins and Plans T

The Kiwanis club met Monday evening at Pilgrim House with President W. L. Arnholt in charge. C. G. Knoblock was introduced as a new member and spoke briefly. Plans for a cooking and homemakers school were outlined, a May start at the high school is planned, and team selection methods for basketball tournaments were explained. The recent high school tournament drew about 2000 visitors and roughly $1100 in receipts for Carey. The club also held a memorial service for charter member E. B. Kurtz.

Stork Delivers Three Babies in Local Hospitals

A 7 pound daughter Sarah Louise arrived Tuesday evening to Rev and Mrs Paul R Clouser at Marion hospital. A son Lee Lynn born Friday to Mr and Mrs Frank Hendricks of Vanlue. A 7 pound daughter Judith Ann born Wednesday last week to Mr and Mrs Glenzo Ellithrope of South Street Providence hospital Sandusky. Ellithrope manages the local Kroger store.

The Carey Farmers Community club schedules its March meeting for next Monday evening at the Moose hall. Organizers Clair Corfman William Bloom and ura Matteson of Upper Sandusky arrange the program. Refreshments will be prepared by John Guttenberg Ralph Brown and Chester A Riedel.

Farmers Cream Station Will Change Location

G C Wagner proprietor of the East Side Market takes charge of the Cooperative Dairy Sales Association cream station and will move the equipment from S Vance street to the Market room on April 1. Fatal crash triggers $25,000 damage suit in Wyandot

Effie B Reynolds administratrix of Allan R Yentzer estate sues Merle J Wise of Wharton minor for $25,000 in Wyandot County Common Pleas Court. The action stems from a January 19 1936 auto accident five miles south of Findlay in Hancock County that fatally injured Yentzer who died minutes after.

Monday night a person tried to steal C C Thome’s car from his E Findlay street residence. The garage door was unlocked and a dash compartment was jimmied in search of keys. Insurance covered the damage through Farm Bureau.

Gas Company Lays New Mains on Findlay Street

The Ohio Fuel Gas Company began work Tuesday with 10 men laying 38 inch mains on E Findlay Street from the C and O railroad tracks to the village limits. New mains will run on both sides of the street to support a future boulevard. Local manager Graham Riley said the old line is sound but new mains are being installed to prevent future pavement disruption. The project will take nearly a month.

Auto collision injures Mrs. Vaughn near Sohio station

An auto driven by Gust Vaughn leaving the Sohio filling station near the Big Four railroad on E Findlay street Saturday evening collided with Everett Hunter’s car. Mrs. Vaughn was painfully injured and both cars were badly damaged. Vaughn carried Farm Bureau insurance.
