Edgar B Kurtz Dies Suddenly In Carey Community

Edgar B Kurtz prominent Carey citizen dies at home on W Findlay street from a heart attack. Born January 30 1870 he was a longtime HH B Kurtz Sons Co. director and Peoples Bank director. Survived by wife Fionia Wonder Kurtz one daughter Ruth and two granddaughters. Funeral arrangements pending with Goff Funeral Home.

Farmers Day at Schmidt Bros Farmers' Day Saturday in Caytey

Schmidt Bros will host a Farmers Day this Saturday at 200 W North Street Caytey in the garment factory building. Massey Harris and Avery company representatives will demonstrate farm machinery lines. Free lunch at noon and many prizes, including a grand spike tooth harrow.

Phillips family moves to own farm near Alvada

Mr. and Mrs. Homer Phillips and their children relocated last Wednesday from the L. G. Ranger farm east of town to their new farm near Alvada. Child Run Over Near Findlay Street in Town

Six year old Herbert Dible son of Mr and Mrs Heart Dible of West Brown avenue escaped serious injuries when a car driven by U S Wilgus west of town ran over him as he neared home from school. The incident occurred in front of Rev Paul R Clouser residence on West Findlay street and the dinner bucket he carried was crushed.

Brenners Visit Relatives After Winter in Reading

Mr. and Mrs. F. J Brenner and son Lawrence spent a week visiting relatives in Carey after a winter in Reading, Pa. They planned to return to Flint Mich as their future home and stopped in Bellevue to visit daughter Sr M Bernadette a parochial school teacher.

Diamond Core Drill Demonstration In Stone Quarry

Jones of Sullivan Machinery Co Chicago demonstrates the diamond core drill at the National Lime and Stone Co quarry. The device brings rock formations to the surface for inspection. Jones has stayed at the New Galt hotel two weeks and will remain until late next week.

Ohio State musical clinic rallies band plans April concert

Miss Finley Miss Smith Miss Woodford and Mrs Wayne Huff man joined a Columbus audience for a musical clinic at Ohio State University. The Band Mothers Club sponsors the April 3 band concert with festival numbers heard publicly for the first time. A Thursday children’s concert will demo instruments and admission is 5 and 10 cents. The club’s meeting approved sponsoring the concert with Prof. Homer Huffman of Upper Sandusky speaking on music value in schools.

The girls of the 2nd year Latin class and the sophomore clothing class have trained for over three weeks for a ping p ong tournament opening March 24. Rev John J Chaney Addresses Kiwanis Club at Pilgrim House

Rev John J Chaney of Forest spoke to a large Kiwanis gathering at Pilgrim House on cultural problems and three attack lines. He urged raising farmer independence from European peasants, expanding farm product uses in industry, and removing surplus crops by selling to food-short countries, even at a loss.

Attempted Robbery at Strand Theatre Office

A Saturday afternoon last week a failed entry into the Strand theatre office above the box office was discovered by Mr Capell. The padlock on the balcony door showed heavy battering. Months earlier Mrs Capell misplaced her purse near the box office with nearly 1000 dollars inside.

The Epworth League of the First Methodist church announces a Friday show date of March 27 for the comedy drama Plain Sister. The two hour production features church youth under Mrs. G. M. Kurtz and tickets will be sold in advance by high school members.

The Cincinnati Times Star reports Arthur S. Postle, formerly Carey High School principal in 1927 28, is appointed dean of men at the University of Cincinnati. He will begin duties July 1 to advise male undergraduates on personal and academic matters, following a March board approval after campus petitions.

Crawford-Ridge Farm Bureau Backs Vocational Education Bill

The Crawford-Ridge Farm Bureau met on Wednesday March 11 and voted to support a federal vocational education bill. They sent a night letter telegram to President Roosevelt urging increased education funding. Rev Marion E Tinsler spoke on Cooperation and will continue the series at the next meeting. Leo Vaughn reported on youths’ cooperation study in Defiance and plans to form a local group.

Big Four expands freight service and crew redeployments

The Big Four plans a service upgrade for freight patrons with more crews. The local yard engine is removed and two switch crews operate from Bellefontaine to Sandusky via Carey, with one crew routing north on Mondays. From Tuesday onward Carey becomes a terminal with two five man crews based there. A free pick up delivery starts April first within corporate limits.

Rawson Wins Class B State Tournament Bid

Rawson high basketball team earned a Class B state tournament berth at Columbus by defeating Bloomville 24 to 19. Roy Greene and Norman Alrey scored 16 between them and Ken Zeurcher Eugene Keller and Ross de Good contributed on both ends. Rawson previously beat Van Buren Mt. Cory Arlington and Mt. Carey lost 42 to 32 to Bloomville, a Seneca county team, ending Carey’s hopes. Bloomville then faced Rawson after Rawson upset Attica 27 to 20 to reach the finals. Attica could not spark against Rawson in Saturday action.

Stork brings several new babies to area families

A son arrived Monday morning to George and wife Burke west of town. A son was born Tuesday morning to Cletus and wife Arnold in Salem township. A daughter named Bernita Ruth arrived last Thursday to Ray and wife Stroub. A 7 pound son named William Frederick was born last Thursday at Mercy hospital in Tiffin to Ralph and wife Pontius of 296 S Sandusky Street. He is the grandson of William Pontius of Carey.
