Easter services span churches with pageant and sermons

Easter observances across Christ Lutheran, Memorial EUB, and First Methodist feature sunrise services at 6:30 or 6:00 a.m. A pageant The Sign of the Ages directed by Mrs. G M Tong is performed at Christ Lutheran. Memorial EUB includes music and a 10:30 sermon The Easter Triumph. First Methodist lists a 6:30 sunrise program led by Youth Fellowship with readings from the Gospels and an 10:30 service with Dr O E B Ford preaching.

Honor Society Initiates Five Juniors in Assembly

In Friday morning assembly the National Honor Society officially initiated five new members. Inductees are Joan Cole Virginia Meek Ruth Adelsperger George Hartman Jr and Samuel McChesney all juniors. President Horace Newhard outlined four objectives Service Leadership Character and Scholarship. Ruth Calmes also participated.

Carey Fire Department Responds to Three Blazes

The Carey fire department battled three incidents last Thursday and Friday. A minor car fire damaged Kermit Peterson’s auto on W North. A lightning strike at Frank Zender’s garage caused the fire that destroyed the office. Total damage to the Zender property was about 350 dollars. A grass fire at Harry Myers’ home south of Carey occurred Saturday afternoon.

Wind Storm Ravages Carey and Surrounding Areas

A severe wind storm caused widespread damage near Carey with downed trees roofs and signs. Seven glass globes blew from White Way lights and power interruptions occurred. Vehicles were displaced and a barn collapsed trapping two cows. Water and gasoline flooded Putnam street basements prompting evacuations and gas safety concerns.

Local Red Cross Exceeds Quota in Carey Drive

The American Red Cross drive in Carey surpassed its goal with collections totaling 1304.05 dollars from a 1200 dollar quota. Local chairman Clayton Twining credited captains and solicitors across Precincts A through H and the business district for the successful campaign.

All-Day Missionary Meeting at Memorial Evangelical Church

The W. S. W. S. of Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church plans an all-day meeting next Wednesday starting at 10 a.m. A tureen dinner will be served. Archbold Amusement Tax Ordinance Approved

Archbold council plans an amusement tax 3 percent on admission receipts within Archbold corporate limits effective after April 1 1948. Public performances for profit taxed. Monthly returns to village clerk. fines for noncompliance. Licenses issued to permanent and itinerant enterprises. Fees: pool tables ten dollars per table per year bowling alleys ten dollars per alley per year coin operated music boxes ten dollars each per year carnivals circuses ten dollars for first day then five dollars daily thereafter. Applies to theatres movie houses athletic games dances and clubs with cover or service charges.

Emadel Wolf Receives Degree at Ohio State

Mr and Mrs Harley Wolf of south of Carey attended the commencement at Ohio State University Columbus where their daughter Emadel received a bachelor of science in home economics with a specialization in interior decorating. She is a Salem high school graduate who interrupted studies to serve two years as a WAVE.

Body of Lit Hendricks Arrives on West Coast

More than 3,000 American war dead are listed aboard the U S Army transport Walter W. Schwenk which has reached San Francisco. Among the dead are First Lt. Donald E Hendricks of Vanlue and Marines, Sgt. Ronald L. Hurd, Marines, and Charles E. Hurd of Upper Sandusky.

White Way lights damaged by Friday wind storm

Seven globe street lamps shattered in a Friday wind storm on the White Way. A Greyhound bus on March 11 skidded in deep snow and struck a light post in front of Fetters' store, also denting Kenneth Myers' parked car. Carey plans to replace the aging lights as they fail.

Opened Watch Repair Shop By McClory In Findlay

Mr and Mrs Eugene McClory moved from Findlay to the East Findlay street trailer park this week. He has opened a watch repair shop in the back of Habiltzel’s barber shop after working three years at Chapman’s jewelry store in Fostoria and briefly for Homer Bean in Findlay.

Man Breaks Arm In Fall At Home In Sandusky

Joe Basom of Sandusky slipped on two wet boards Wednesday of last week and fell against his garage, breaking his right arm. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. Family and friends visited during the following days at the hospital after the accident.

Car Exhaust Suspected in Monoxide Poisoning of Eschbach Children

On Sunday evening March 7 the two Eschbach children Darel Jr eight and Marilee Joy six became ill after returning from Fulton. A physician diagnosed monoxide poisoning likely from exhaust fumes of the Eschbach car.

Car Crash Injures Three Near Williamstown

Three people were hurt at 8 30 a m Sunday when a car driven by Corbin Fletcher of Carey left Route 30 N and struck a ditch 1 ½ miles east of Williamstown. Passengers Mrs Margaret Fletcher 26 and Peter Jacob 51 both of Carey suffered injuries and were taken to Findlay hospital. The driver had a cut chin.
