District Supervisor Ruth K. Durtschi announced advance census report forms would be distributed by post office staff to all area households. The form speeds field work and collects detailed data on individuals and dwellings, with strict confidentiality and only aggregate results published.
Carey High School basketball stars John McDaniel and Rex Orians received honorable mention in the Associated Press All Ohio selections. John earned All-Conference first team honors from Sandusky Bay coaches while Rex also picked up honorable mention.
On March 10 the Cleveland Regional Bloodmobile visited Carey Methodist Church. Ninety-three turnout how many? Noting 28 no shows. Seventeen? 14 deferred for medical reasons. 46 donated for family or friends. Two volunteers received two gallon pins Harold Shiley and James Lindsey. New one gallon donors include Robert Jacob Donald Traxler Elmer Wicker Mrs Herman Niederkohr Clarence Lucais Daniel Odone. Doctors were F M Smith Walter Wozniak and T R Huston. Nurses assisted included Judson Huston T R Huston A J Dibling Everett McKee Edmond Pahl.
Curtis Wayne Wright son of Mr and Mrs Tollie Wright of W South Street earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Bliss College Columbus on March 1 He plans to stay in Columbus at Golds Department Store where he worked part time while attending classes.
Three inmates fled Wyandot county jail by sawing bars and a window screen. Clyde Lemaster 23 of McCutchenville Gary Howell 19 of Elkhart Ind remain at large while Robert Wackworth 30 was recaptured in his attic near Vanlue. Risner 27 was taken to Mansfield after not joining the escape.
Wyandot County Republican Women met March 17 at the home of Mrs F D Hurd with 41 members. Speakers included Sheriff W Dean McAllister, Recorder candidate Carl Huffman, and County Commissioners Harold Shuman and Robert Mott. Mrs Martha Wheatcraft discussed open versus closed primaries and the census questions essential for representation and services.
Carey Exempted Village Board of Education sets a limited summer program at Carey High School starting June 13. Programs offered include Driver Training Personal Typing and Elementary Reading with specific age and grade prerequisites and a $5 registration fee plus course costs.
CCDC directors will gather information for a survey by the Ohio Department of Industrial and Economic Development. The state survey will be comprehensive. 12 pages of questions will yield statistics for the focal situation. Village Manager George E. Dunn, E. G. Ryman, and directors Earl S. Burson and W. E. Hershman attended the February 23 Bowling Green State University meeting and Dunn will assist.
Mrs Burlin Yohe of Carey remains unable to be up after recent left leg infection surgery. She will return to University Hospital Columbus on April 7 for further treatment and thanks readers for greetings. Luther Yohe, Bolicks brother, undergoes kidney stone removal surgery in Akron City Hospital after a slip on ice injured ribs. He is in room 327. Emery Yohe, a brother now in Butler Pennsylvania, recovers at home from January sinus infection operation.
Revival services at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren begin Monday March 28 and end Sunday April 10. The Rev. Gilbert Hawkins of Berrien Springs Michigan will speak. Public invited to attend as each evening service starts at 7 30.
Carey Parents and teachers will attend an annual open house Monday evening. The West school hosts visitors from 7 to 8 pm while Col Crawford and high schools run 7 to 8 30. Refreshments follow in the cafeteria and classrooms display student work. Attendance for the PTA room banner will be recorded in each room.
The fourth quarterly conference met Sunday at Vanlue with a tureen dinner for officers and Rev. Austin Whitmore of Toledo. A business session elected Mrs. Fred Heimrick treasurer and nominating committee members for 1960. Attendees from McCutchenville included several families and church officers.
Carey village council revisited the 1942 curfew whistle rule, rescinding a prior move to stop blowing it. Chief Pieracini urged a printed manual for officers and outlined parkRestroom plans, new police car bids, and park siren installation funded by phase service at Waterworks park. No action on income tax system. other items include mower repair, sewer funding discussions, and sewer work prep with federal aid contacts.
The late Joe Fox blacksmith shop at the rear of the Legion hall is now open offering repair welding plow outfits sickle knives sharpened and repaired.
A large audience enjoyed a splendid operetta by 5th and 6th graders titled Once Upon a Time or Rumpelstiltskin. Director Miss Jane Schwemley led the vocal music program with staff help and strong parent cooperation.
The Honor Roll for the fourth six week period at Our Lady of Consolation School is listed by grade from 8 to 1. Names include Harold Karcher Carol Croll Joan Bradman John Jacoby David Karcher and many others across grades 7 6 5 4 3 2 and 1 with multiple families such as Karcher Lambert and O Flaherty represented.
Director Richard C. Crouch of the Ohio Department of Liquor Control announced Carlton T. Jenet of 215 219 N Lake Street was issued C1 and C2 permits for carry-out beer and high powered beer and wine. The application was filed January 15, 1960. No limit on number of C1 and C2 permits.
John Anderson of Maumee will present a film and discuss the St. Lawrence Seaway at the adult farmer class meeting. The session is open to the public and starts at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
Carey Garden Club members and guests heard vocational agriculture teacher Mr Cupp discuss soil testing and phosphorus levels at a Monday gathering hosted by Mrs William Hershman on Findlay Street. The group planned to donate to the Johnny Appleseed Highway Project and attend a flower arranging class in Findlay.
Stanley G. Stroub has been promoted to private first class and will depart for Europe in April. A graduate of the Finance Procedure and Finance Disbursing Courses, he serves in the 13th Finance Disbursing Section at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He hails from near Carey and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stroub of 832 Wilson Street, Findlay.
Mrs. Robert Atkins of Findlay joins four others as all-expense paid two person trips. Four winners head to Miami for two weeks, one to Hawaii for ten days. Other names include Miss Shirley Pierce of Fostoria Miss Augusta Kantzer of Bucyrus Francis Coulson of Findlay and E G Huffman of Fremont. Hawaii trip winner to be drawn Sunday at Elks Club Findlay during a Hawaiian party hosted by Scheck’s markets. Maurie Clark of WFIN hosts.
