Memorial Park trustees announce a meeting at the municipal building on Friday evening March 21 at 7 30 to discuss boosting the park project. Residents and organizations are urged to attend with plans and opinions on improving the community space and memorials.
Miss Alice Ellen Miller of Upper Sandusky received the white veil at the Mother of Mercy novitiate in Cincinnati and took the name Sister Mary Romana. Attending from the vicinity were Rev. William J. McKeown, Mr and Mrs Delmo Miller and daughter Rosalind, Mr and Mrs Charles J Miller, and Mrs C H Bennett.
Vanlue volunteer firefighters Luther Haines Carl Beaver and Lynn Stillberger left Tuesday for Lansing Michigan to receive a new high pressure fire truck for service. They will be trained on operation and drive the vehicle back to Vanlue arriving Thursday evening.
Citizens urged to donate regs or silk hose to weave rags for disabled veterans. Drop items at the Gilliland home 207 S Patterson. Miss Della Gilliland reachable by R-292 for updates. A rag sewing day Friday March 21 with a public potluck dinner at the Gilliland residence.

The Carey Kiwanis Club held a Monday evening meeting at Trubey's restaurant. Vernon Huston presented slides from his fall on a European trip showing American cemeteries in France and Belgium and scenes from France Belgium and Switzerland.
Palm Leaf Rebekah Lodge No. 656 will meet Tuesday evening March 24 in the I O O F hall. A good attendance is desired. There will be 2 social hours with Mrs. J H Wagner chairing the committee in charge.
Clyde Wentling of east of Crawford bought the 135 acre Pahl farm at a public sale held Saturday March 8. The late Henry Pahl estate farm located in Crawford sold for 39100 dollars to Wentling a top bidder.
A regular meeting of the W B A is announced for Friday evening March 21 at 8 15 PM. Officers and members are urged to attend.
The Carey Community Institute hosted a two day event March 6 and 7 with Sidney Hilty and Mt Blanchard schools judging agricultural exhibits. Winners in general farm displays included Thelby Wentling for hydraulic jack and later prizes for corn, grease, merchandise, and livestock related items from local businesses and Farm Bureau.
Kenton plans a 100000 bond issue for a municipal swimming pool on May 6 but faces law limits. Ohio voters may approve only one tenth of a mill for park purposes and pools cannot be built outside city limits, so children may use Forest pool until new legislation allows changes.
Martha Sponsler was initiated into the Pi Beta Phi sorority at Ohio Wesleyan University. She is the daughter of Mrs. Martha Sponster of W Findlay Street Carey Ohio.

The final session of the Lenten Devotions series by Christ Lutheran Church missionary societies will be held in the junior chapel next Monday March 24 at 7 30 pm. Mrs G M Tong will lead with the topic The Armor of God. All women of the congregation and community are invited.
David Tiell sold his 70.43 acre tract four miles east of Carey on Route 103 to Simon Fletcher who plans to move onto the farm around April 1. The sale was negotiated by John Risner, a local real estate broker.
The Pythian Sisters hold a Thursday evening meeting March 20 to practice for inspection. A potluck and auction are planned and all members are urged to attend and contribute items for the sale.
Henry Pieracini chief of police warns dog owners that dogs must not run loose within corporation limits. Offenders will be prosecuted and dogs may be impounded.
The Carey Red Cross drive exceeded its quota by reporting $1 065 raised, topping the $900 1947 goal. Chairman Paul Heck announced the collection drive began March 10 and finished within 10 days.
The Wyan dot and Crawford county Reserve Officers chapter met March 10 and activated Battery of the 322nd Field Artillery Battalion, 83rd Division under Capt. John R. De Bolt. Major Lust led the legislative committee, with Lt. Col. Melish and Lt. Vergon elected as delegates to the Dayton reserve officers convention.
An 8 pound 5 ounce son born March 6 at South Side Clinic Mesa Arizona to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lortz. The mother is Mary Faires formerly of Carey. The couple previously lived in Tifin and moved to Arizona last August. Also a son born March 8 at St Rita's Lima to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Will of Delphes named Richard James. A 6 ounce daughter born Saturday at 11 59 in Pand lay hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Loudenslager of Carey.
Marilyn Shane of Carey route 2 in Bowling Green has been chosen for the Emerson Literary Society membership committee at Bowling Green State University. A sophomore history major and 1944 Carey High School graduate, she also plays on the women’s basketball team and participates in the Dance Club and mixed chorus.
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold a regular meeting Monday at 8 o clock in the Legion hall at 60 S Vance Street. New officers will be installed, with refreshments and entertainment. Mrs Ray Tracy chairs the committee in charge.
The 5 room home and one acre of ground in Crawford owned by Mrs Albert McRae of Hart Michigan sold to William J. Smith of east of Carey. The sale was handled by Stevens Realty. Mrs McRae, before her marriage was Mrs Agnes Wood a former Carey schools teacher.
Findlay public schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday as superintendent Fred L. Kinley aims to curb a spike in influenza cases.
Eastern Star notice announces Crawford chapter 168 C E S holds a regular meeting Friday evening March 21 starting promptly at 7 30.
Of 806 pupils in Carey public schools about 10 percent are absent due to flu. Last week most absentees were from the high school. this week the grade schools show more illness. Officials do not plan to close the Carey schools unless flu cases rise.
The Southeast district Moose officers meet in Bucyrus March 19 led by President A L Gerten and Secretary C J Neff. A dance at Moose Hall March 20 supports the Red Cross with 25 cents admission. Fordy Gregg provides music. Tickets available at the door or from Moose members.
A summer visit to Mooseheart's Child City is presented as free to the public. Guides will escort visitors around the grounds to view all notable locations during the tour sponsored by the Loyal Order of Moose.

Kenneth Coppler age 27 of 138 Brayton Street Carey died from carbon monoxide poisoning after sleeping in a running truck at a Sylvania Ohio filling station. He died Thursday night at Berley hospital with wife Pauline and daughter Patricia at his side. Funeral services were held at Bristoll funeral home with burial in Spring Grove cemetery. He served in World War II and was a member of Memorial Church and Loyal Order of Moose.

Flu illnesses affect Billie De Long and James Patterson at grandparents in Bellefontaine. Fink and Smith families host in Allentown and Carey area. Numerous locals host callers and visitors including the Nye family in Findlay and convalescence after an operation at Findlay hospital.
