Girl Scout Week Activities and Troop Updates
Carey area Girl Scout Week runs March 10 to 16 with four registered troops and a fifth joining in April. Troops include Wyandot county Senior Scouts led by Theda Wilt with Janice Markley. Troop 11 with Frances Peirce and Robert Frederick. Troop 14-77 led by George Jaster. Troop 155 led by Robert Gardner with Wil liam Heard and Cicely Claude. The Dew troop will serve Our Lady of Consolation school’s 6th and 7th graders led by FloRene Rufing with Mollie Lortz co leader. A choral group of scouts performed on WMEN Marion on March 11 at 4 45 p m. They sang Christmas carols at the county home and carolled at shut ins on December 23. All troops started a camp savings plan and plan camping at Camp Pittenger this summer. Organizations may call Mrs George Snyder to arrange camperships.

The largest Community Institute crowd at Carey gathered for the 1947 sessions held last Thursday and Friday at the school auditorium. Attendance totaled 1859 for both afternoon and evening programs. Officers elected for 1948 included President Clarence Elchert and others across multiple committees. Two exhibits from the high school manual training and mechanical drawing classes won prizes, with a variety of dairy, crafts, and food items awarded. A new writing contest engaged grade schools with multiple prize winners listed by school and classroom.

James B Kromer of Carey died at Fostoria City Hospital from burns after a collision with a freight trailer on Route 224 near Route 23.
