D A R Meets At Rock Home In March Chapter Meeting

The Colonel William Crawford Chapter D A R held its March meeting at Mrs Harry Rook s home on Patterson Street with fifteen members present. A nominating committee was named and reports read including a Restoral of Prayer in the Public Schools and a study on the Wyandot Indian Mill. Judy Davenport and Keith Phillips highlighted the evening with theater items as Carey Senior Class prepares for Oklahoma a Rodgers and Hammerstein production to be staged tonight and tomorrow night March 16 and 17 with a large cast and supporting chorus.

Home Economics Department Expands Vocational Training

The state Department of Education approves the Home Economics Department to broaden its curriculum. The program will integrate home experiences with classroom lessons to better meet individual student needs and offer realistic training in personal and family living.

Grover Wagner and Wife Mark 58th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Grover Wagner of N. Vance Street celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Friday March 10 at the home of Mr. Wagner’s sister Mrs. Hazel Woodell in Lima. They were invited to dinner Sunday March 12 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marlon Woodell of Lima. The Wagners returned home Monday March 13.

Carey pupil Sandra Putnam crowned spelling champion

Sandra Putnam an eighth grade student at Carey Public Schools won the local spelling contest sponsored by the Columbus Citizen Journal. The top spellers from grades six to eight competed, with Sandra advancing to represent Carey in the state Ohio spelling bee in Columbus on May 6 1967. The state winner earns prizes totaling thousands of dollars and a Washington trip in June 1967.

Dick Ward bowled a 703 series in the Classic League at Bowl-Era on March 9 His games were 256 234 and 213 marking his 2nd 700 series of the season with a total of 703 points.

Mr and Mrs Frank Heck of 502 W Findlay Street attended the National Institute of Dry Cleaning at Convention Hall in Cleveland over Friday and Saturday. They reported the institute showcased new modern techniques and expect to apply these methods to improve service for Carey and surrounding customers.

Fate of Sportsman Rail Service Hinges on ICC Decision

Mac E. Rogers of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen says the fate of C and O trains 46 and 47 rests with the Interstate Commerce Commission. The railroad sought to discontinue the Sportsman on January 10, 1967, with four months of continued operation for hearings in Ohio and nearby cities including Delaware Marion Fostoria and Oregon. The Very Reverend Fawr Fubert Kobinski protests, noting the trains are the last service into Carey and affect the local community.
